Yeah you can if you dont know what your doing. probs best to get someone who knows how to do it or get a garage to messure it as some people do it by the "notches" method! im not an expert but don't go undoing bolts and 'dropping it' lol.

If only it was that easy!

There are 4 torx t40 bolts to undo, 1 at each end of both the torsion bars
2x 13mm bolts to undo on the anti roll bar end plates

Theres 6 straight off and thats not even the half of it

Depending how easy you want to make it for yourself theres also several other things that can be removed to aid the process:

    dampers
anti roll bar (not necessary but some people so remove them so the anti roll bar plates are out of the way as drivers side one covers one of the torsion bar ends
trailing arm brake line bracket - allows easier access to some of the torsion bar bolts
Then theres the offset washers that hold the torsion bars into place.

It depends entirely on which method people are using to lower it.

I suspect that if someone is willing to do the torsion bars for £20 they either havn't got a clue how long it can potentially take to do it all properly, or they are using the cowboy incorrect method of notches/splines.

The incorrect method is easy, it is a quick buck for some places and they couldnt give a toss about damaging various components.

If you read up on lowering and gain a greater understanding of what both methods involve then you would see why there is such a difference in price.

Many garages quote a ridiculously silly price regardless of which method they use, ive heard of garages quoting well over £200 just because they really dont want the hassle of doing it. These aren't accurate prices to go on as they just overprice it as the job can be unpredictable at times depending on the condition of parts etc and then becomes not cost effective.

There are alot of people on this forum who know exactly how to do it properly and as far as i know the fair cost they charge varies between £60-£100 or there abouts.

for lowering rear alone i charge £45, imo, the hardest parts is getting the washer back in on the drivers side of the front torsion bar lol, can be fidly getting it in sometimes.
