Rattle Can Spraying

  1. #1
Some nob has damaged my bumper (The black trim). I take great care and pride in my car and its really bugging me that i have a mint R Reg car and the rear end looks so tatty.

I've been looking at rear flat arch bumpers on ebay and came across one but its not 'Venition Red', the colour i'm after. Its a bergindy red.

I've rung the seller and he said it could easily be sprayed with rattle cans.

What sort of quality would this look like? How much would it cost to do it my self? (Primer, paint, Laqure etc)

On the other hand, what sort of price would a local professional charge just for the rear bumper to be sprayed, the same colour as the car? (if you live local to Bedford, and know a local sprayer, PM me)

    Thanks.

You mean the removable plastic trims?

If this is what you mean i did all mine on the 106 and turned out pretty good tbh just need to prep it properly.

    NO

    Rear Bumper!!! The actual bumper

Not the black bit of the bumper, but the paint under the bumper.

if you went to halfords, bought 1 plastic primer, one colour, one lacquer, some wet and dry for prepping you would be spending £20 to £25.

    I agree.

Thats a HELL OF ALOT of money for some plastic to be sprayed. Its not even colour coded and don't require the black to be re-sprayed.. It is litterly the 'Vallence' i need spraying.

    Thanks

    Ok.

    Lets turn it round.

Basically my bumper had been smashed into by some dick on a motorbike. Dented the whole boot and fooked the bumper. Luckly it wern't a wright off and we came to a gentlemans agreement that he would repair it. Luckly he worked in a body shop and he paid to do it and he salvaged the parts, £750 total bill to him.

Came out lovely part from the BLACK PLASTIC on the bumper, it was a matt, bumpy finish. They refused to rectify it so lived with it.

Someone hit me in the car park and drove off. There was no damage at all bar a tiny bit of flaking of the bumper (Don't forget, the black plastic bit)

It got worse and worse and i decided to STEAM CLEAN it off at dads works.

Being a dick head, i got impatent after a hour and a half and as some parts stuck better then others i got so close to the bumper (Black Bit) that i burnt it and its gone all 'Shreaded' effect.

What i suggested to dad is that I sand and fill where i've burnt the bumper then get it resprayed. Would that be a cheaper altertantive?

Imo you need to do all or none of the bumper bud

first of all mate, could you get some pictures up??

if it was me, personally i would find a local bodyshop and ask for a quote, just to see how much it would be.

The Car is 'Venition Red' not pink. I hope thats good enough for you to understand what i mean with the black bumper. bearing in mind it was almost getting dark out so tried my best. Some of the new bumer that they sprayed on is still on the old bumper, its stuck so well i can't get it off.

    Thanks

that my friend is not good. i wouldnt waste my money trying to do it my self, i would save up and get it done by a professional

You can clearly see over spray but they wont admit to it.

its not as bad as it looks. I don't think the light dose it justice because of shadows etc.
  24. #24
Surely you could just try and buy a new rear bumper. Venitian Red isn't a rare colour.

Mate, i've been looking on eGay for the last 3 months. Only came across one bumper and that was in SHIT condition. Laquire and scratched all over.

It is a rare colour, believe me. type in 'venition Red' on eBay and see what comes up.

I would rather a whole new valance and bumper, although the valance is in MINT condition, thus wanting the black part re-sprayed. I've got a mint conditon car and hate the thuoght when people are behind me admiring the car and see the bumper, people look at me and think young lad = thrashed car.

I'll see what a few body shops would say.

    Thanks

I found one on eBay but its a 2001 bumper, is that a Mk2? Would that be the same colouor red as venition red?
  29. #29
back bumper is same on mk2 as mk1 and my saxo is venitian red. lol. i'd say it rare-ish tbh.

when it comes to paintwork pro' is the best option,
it's so easy for the paint to fry or speckle when done DIY,
see if the bodyshop would consider only pinting the minimum and blending it in rather than doing a full job
this may cut down the cost,
have you tried hunting around scrappies?
get the yellow pages out and see what you can find many might even post, could save you a bit.
