gearbox advice

   what other gearboxes fit the vtr. and what would be the best one for it. faster acceleration and top speed.

   The rallye gearboxes are shorter ratio and get better accelleration on the vtr but the top speed wont change due to the box ratios. If anything it may even get a slower top end.
   
   If it were me then i would only care about how quick you can get to 70mph. Its all about acceleration for me not top end.

   im putting a vts gearbox on my vtr, best of both worlds tbh

   You sure? I would have thought a short ratio box designed for an 8v such as the rallye boxes would be the best ones by a clear mile mate.

   a got this gearbox not that long ago got told it was a diesel gearbox worked a treat. was rapid. kept up with a seat leaon 1,8 20v turbo time a got into 3rd gear. but a blew a hole in it the other day. got a chance to get a 106 1.4 quicksilver one duno if it would be any good though

   depends what you want from the box tbh, i need a new box anyway and have read that its better on acceleration and near enough same topend, but the vtr box is soo long anyway
   
   if totally comitting to acceleration (which im not) the 1.4XSI boxes are the best so i hear!
   
   but you will top out at around 90/100 with that box.

   the XSI gearbox is from a, 106 1.4 XSI
   
   or theres the S1 or S2 gearbox from the 106 rallyes

    all three of them boxes would give you good acceleration...
    
    mind you any box other then a VTR box will do that

    i thought S1 rallye box gave the best acceleration out of all the MA boxes??

    Topping out at 90/100 with an XSi box? Shorter ratio'ed boxes?! It tends to be the final driving being different in the various boxes that affects acceleration!
    
    Search people theres loads of info on this already. S1 rallye has the highest final drive, followed by the 1.4 XSi box, then S2 rallye, VTS/GTi.

    i got a 1.4xsi box too running on my vts, you lose a little top end but getting there is rapid!!

    Had one of these on my car for for 3k miles now.. just starting to whine now. Noticable difference in accelaration.
    
    1.1 box to replace this one, £20 bargain.
