I think back in the day with the mandatory introduction of Cat's they used to restrict the flow quite severely, however with 15 years of compulsory use I don't think the Cat's are as restrictive and poorly designed as they once were.

I'd say keep it, but I've yet to actually decat mine and find out for sure if it runs any better.

made a difference on my vts feels like it pulls better and the exhaust sounds nicer also pops when changing down a gear

you will get a small gain by removing it. Usually most noticable at the top end.

Its not going to be massive for the reasons adsayer wrote

It all depends on where you are going with the car too. If your going big power then it will have to come out as it will reach a point where it is the main restriction but just breathing mods to a vtr you probably wont notice much, if anything.

I thought removing your cat would of made a difference cause I thought they restricted the gases passing through or I might be talking crap
  12. #12
the cats ive come across are very restrictive, but having said that ive only ever come across old cats. like ad sayer said im pretty sure that with cats being used for a while now they are alot better designed and less restrictive

I have a mk2 vtr with a janspeed manifold, 1.4 saxo centre section and a supersprint backbox and made 110.9bhp at a rolling road.

Decat makes it sound very good imo id definately reccomend it.

tbh depending on what your plans are for the car that should determine whether you should remove it.

    air filters
    manifold
    exhaust
    cam and map
that would be a good time to remove the cat

if you just air filter and exhaust type of guy leave it in save yourself the hassle

I'm going to do all of the mods stated above except maybe cams and remap. I'm wanting to get better throttle response

    Cheers mat

mine is decatted and a strait through stainless steal system on a standard manifold and its pretty loud and pops like mad

got a raceland 421, supersprint catback centre pipe and a supersprint magnum backbox. last week i added a sebring decat pipe, didn't have much time to test it propperly but i'm loving the sound it's producing. It's producing more noise and sometimes a pop and a bang

Its made a massive difference on my mates VTs.

sod it definetly going to decat it just spoke to the lad down at manic motors about it but now got to make a new decision a supersprint centre section no silencer (£100)or a stainless steel no silencer (£65). what do you lot think

    cheers

Should make a small difference and increase in BHP and Torque.

Personaly would go for the silenced centre section.

Pretty much how i feel about mine decat'ed it revs alot more 'free'ly' and pulls harder top end, plus it sounds lovely . worth it imo
