  3. #3

cheap mods are not going to get you any noticable performance gains mate.

you could pick up a cheap engine, do the work youself, its going to give the best difference than any exhaust or induction kit!

if you pick up a cheap one it will be rubbish! looking 200-300+ for a good one. then think insurance change aswell... not cheap in anyway.

and you would have to declare any other engine mod too.......

if you got a high milage one and rebuilt it, youll have the best engine you can get
  11. #11
and a rebuild will cost a futune. an exhaust, induction anything like that will be nothing compared to the insurance increase of a 16v engine.

its a bit of a bold statement saying its the best engine aswell

it will be like new, thats why say with a gearbox you will pay like £500 for a rebilt one....

yeah insurance would hit but who actually declares that type of mod?

also a good engine would cost about £300 to £400
  13. #13
check out ebay and keep your eye on possible bargains mate. Just as long as the dont include the word "chip".

who declares that type mod? id hope everyone declares engine changes and if they dont then they are complete retards!

by saying a good engine costs that you are just proving my point... same with a gearbox is £500, your proving my fault...

well i dont have any type of mods but how many of the lad son here declare an induction kit etc etc??

and look in for sale, theres a vtr engine tuned
  16. #16
theres allot of people that declare induction kits and so they should.

the point of this thread was cheap mods mate! not expensive engine changes!
  17. #17
all i was doing was giving the guy an idea.
he wants a fater engine, so i give him an alternative
he may not realise he can actually get an engine transplant.

    its only ideas.
  18. #18
all good and well people saying get a 16v but its insurance group 14 so for alot of people its quite expensive

cheap mods are pointless, may aswell get the 20bhp "RACING CHIP" from ebay or a electric fan supercharger. if your not going to spend money on decent performance mods dont bother, it will be pointless.

    new induction kit
    manifold + exhaust system

not cheap but first things to do

Give the car a good service, get the car to run its best!

thankyou and after having a good look around i relised this is the case instead in forking out a lil bit, decided on a janspeen stianless manifold, a remus backbox, induction kit of some sort and lowering 35mm. apprently upping bph between 40-50. not changing looks but anyone no how the original wheels will take the extra power? wanna keep the outside standard. this car is awesome for modding ive been running a 2.0L seat toledo and modding cost a fotune cos of lack of parts! this seems to be easy lol thanks for advice anymore would be cool k

back box and manifold with an induction kit will NOT gain 40-50bhp, be lucky to tet above 10bhp!!!!!

The vtr pistons dont have any form of allowance for the valves like the 16v pistons do.
