rev counter

Hi This is just out of curiosity than anything else.

When I first bought my saxo vtr mk2 51 plate around about 5 months ago the rev counter when at a standstill hovered just above 1000 rpm but now It is well below that just below 800.

I bought the car at 28000 miles and have done roughly 4000 miles.

why has it decreased? is this normal? good or bad?

    thanx

idle air control valve may need cleaning.
On start up from cold it will be lower, then once warmer it will raise.
    Does it drive ok?

really? i thought it was the other way around? Is'nt the idle higher when the engine is cold because of the auto choke? Then lower when warm?

Cold start it will be high idling at 1100, warm idle will be about 800
