#4alrte mate
how come your only going for a mild cam?
you could see around 115bhp at most really with mild cam, if you spent the little extra and got say a ph3 and a remap you could see 120 to 125bhp and you will regret buying the mild cam cause you will only want more power when youve fitted it lol
its a fair bit extra but alot of 8v boys who have gone for the ph3 and remap have all rated it highly and well worth doing
as for rockers yours should have roller, as all silvertops have roller rockers so im told, but i thought origionally it was the 90bhp silvertops and blacktops that had it, there is a thread somewhere though saying which you will have it explains all 3 types of engine
im sure it is a sticky in the performance fazs bit in this thread

#5thanks for the reply mate, i was going for a mild cam cos i wanted it to idle ok, i dont want it to sound like its dying on idle because i use it daily. how much is it for the ph3 cams? and how much do people charge to fit them? cos im guessing im gonna have to get it remapped to suit the change? so you reckon i could get an extra 25bhpish with the right cams? thanks for the reply and help, much appreciated

#6to be honest it still wont idle like shit with the ph3's and remap mate, it may be a lil lumpy here and there but you could still use it as a daily mate
i am going to be running a 280 deg cam aswell its the ph2 but is same as the ph3, and my car is still a daily and i will be travelling 50miles a day to work lol
but erm as for costs etc, since your in the midlands theres a place in derbyshire that im told is quite good its called dynotech erm a remap there is 345inc vat and they can also fit the cam and time it up i think its £45 an hour for that and you would be looking around 3 to 4 hours i should think
erm but then you will need to buy things like head gasket and other gaskets, headbolts etc etc and may aswell do things like water pump and cambelt kit whilst they will be removing it, all in for your service parts you could be looking at 200quid
so camming is not that cheap and as simple as just buying the cam and fitting it even if you was to get a mild cam you will still need to get all the service stuff and then pay to get it fitted
erm oh and also you would need an adjustable pulley if you went for a bigger cam like ph3
hope this helps mate, feel free to pm me if you want a bit of help1 user thanked this post: -
#7cheeers mate, thanks for the help! am really grateful! i was looking and on the website it was saying you could quite literally swap the cams over and leave everything else untouched? but guessing from what your saying, it would probably be better just to get the whole lot done to be safe. im either gonna cam my saxslow or sell it and buy a glanza v cos im liking those at the moment. i do love my sax though, just a good laugh to drive.

#8nahh it isnt that easy mate theres alot involved in it and will cost around 1k and depends how much labour is around your area or if you fit yourselfQuote:cheeers mate, thanks for the help! am really grateful! i was looking and on the website it was saying you could quite literally swap the cams over and leave everything else untouched? but guessing from what your saying, it would probably be better just to get the whole lot done to be safe. im either gonna cam my saxslow or sell it and buy a glanza v cos im liking those at the moment. i do love my sax though, just a good laugh to drive.
but yer they are great cars, i must admit i do like the glanzas, but just couldnt get insured lol plus i like my saxo too much
its up to you though mate, its def well worth it if you do it properly, but then if your only going to keep the sao for like 6 months then change your mind and go to the glanza i would say notto bother as you will probs loose out on half the money you spent camming the vtr -
#9If you can afford to insure a galanza or cam a vtr why not buy a vts?
