Wheel Refurb...

  1. #1
Have spent the last week...scrubbing the hell out of my new alloys to get the black paint off...now their all shiny silver again...and ready for a full refurbishment...

Heres the thing...HOW FAR TO GO WITH A REFURB?

I know alloy refurb is seriously popular, but how far should I take it?
Im tempted - as the alloys have no tyres on, to do the whole rim!
I want them to look like new?

Do many people do the whole wheel, inside and out, back and front...
or is it more hassle than its worth?

Feel free to post pics...guides anything and everything you know about alloy wheel refurbishment....I will be sure to document my adventure and get it posted on here for all future wheel refurbishment - ers....

If there are no tyres then spray they whole thing it makes more sense.

i allways spray the whole thing but dont bother with the beading areas as when you fit tyres to them again its harder to get a proper seal and youll end up with slow punctures

its too much hassle unless you take them somewhere to get it done properly, most people usually just do the face of the wheel because its easier

ive done 3 sets of VTS wheels, and theyve all come out fine, the longer you take with prep, spraying ect the better they will be.

yeh but what if you want to change the colour?

cant just do the face of the wheel then also surely it looks a different colour?

then your shot blast/sand them down and start again.

when the tyres are on your only going to see the front of the wheel anyway, there is a guide on here http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87427

i followed that the first time i did a set

Shouldnt powdercoat wheels as when they are baked it can cause the alloys to crack due to the pressure from the air bubbles inside

Alot of things "can" happen to wheels, not that much of a common thing to happen afaik tho

ive refurbed like 8 sets mate

no my point was regardless of whether tyres are on or not if you only refurb the face of the alloys depending on the design you can see right through into the inside of the wheel, = different colour!

obviously if youre going different colour then a whole rub down will be a nessesity
