    Hi all


    Quick question i`ve just re-furbished my steelies using the above can you spray lacquer onto the above?or does it react & bubble?

    A bit off topic.

    Do they look ok?

    I am thinking of doing my VTR allys white with it.

    lacquer should be fine afaik! Saxo_vtr why do you not just use spray cans from halfords? They work well and the job is dependant on how much you prep the wheels!

    do what im currently doing. doing my vtr alloys black. taken it down to bare metal. im tellin ya its the way to go.

    use a paint stripper called NitroMorse or mors.
    green tin.

    but for god sake dont let it splash you on the arm. it burns your skin as soon as it touches.!!!

    carrying on with mine tomorrow. sanding and primering 2moz!! (y)

    But hammerite is like primer etc aswell.

    And it will stick to anything lolz, and is more durable.

    Gloss finish as far as i know

    Its in a can though, so i am still thinking about what exactly to do

    depends if your pretty handy with a rattle can im not to bad. could be better. could be worse lol

    prep work: depends on the condition of wheels... wet and dry the high heaven out of them... give them a decent 'key' for the primer to stick to.
    Its fairly simple... I did mine alpine white (iirc) and used cans from halfords

    Yep Hammerites fine,right a quick run through of what I did.

    1.wash the wheels off(dry thoroughly)

    2.metal oxide paper(gets loose rust off)

    3.600/800 grade wet & dry paper.

    4.wash off again (dry thoroughly)

    5.mask of your wheel bolts & give each wheel 2-3 coats.

    o`h & i`m using Hammerite satin black paint in a can +give it light dust coats to build up the layers.Any runs then wait 24hrs & lightly sand again then spray.

    Then after the paints fully hardened it`ll have Red rim tape & Red valve caps.

    i know this is abit of a twattish question but did you prep the back of the alloys aswell like spray the whole alloy or just the face?

    No you just give the wheel a good wash down front & back good idea to put de-greaser on like gunk 1st & work it in with a nailbrush/toothbrush,you don`t need to sand anything on the rear of the wheel at all.

    well just to say i sprayed soem hammerite on some stuff and when i laquared it. it all reacted and the paint peeled n flaked off. hammerirte is an outside paint with laquar in it already u don 't laquar the garden stuff u spray

    i have always used standard halford rattle cans and i have found it gives a better finish than hammerite

    Hammerite recommends themselves that you don't lacquer it, dunno if it will effect the longevity of it

    Thanks for the advice about lacquer i`m not going to bother with lacquer,the wheels have come up nice not perfect but a darn sight better than they were.Does anybody know where to get Red wheel nut covers?

    i am doing my wheels next week end.

    i have the standard citroen (venom kinda look-a-likes) but they have all fucked through corrosion. so i have picked the loose bits of powder coat off and sanded the rest. going to keep sanding them every day until it is time to spray them.

    i am lucky enough to have a brother that works for a powder coating firm, so he is going to get me some spray cants that work similar to powder coating. (similar finish and durability, not procedure) i will post pics of what they finish up like.

    i have the mango west coast, so will be going high gloss black!

    i would just buy some new wheels as these are only 14", but i am broke as a joke at the moment... Damned credit crunch!

    Can your brother not powedercoat em for you?
    Powdercoating is a process that cannot come from a rattle can
