doesnt need to be fitted by a bodyshop if u have basic welding skills, its only loads of spot welds! Apparently it a totally pain in the asrse to find all the spots and drill/grind them out though. Id say ur looking at around 500 quid to buy the roof skin from citreon (110 quid) then getting the interior stripped, old roof removed, new roof welded in place and painted!

i was hoping to pick up a skin from a scrappy, say bout 50 quid, my interior is the bare minimum anyways, so nothing to strip, the bloke who does spraying for me works for a reputable company and does sprayin on the side for extra cash and dont charge much! its just the case of having the new roof spot welded back on!

let me know how u get on mate

    cheers

cant see u been able to go to a scrapyard and sit and take a roofskin off, will take afew hours! and no scrapyards gonna waste there time doing it, if ur lucky u might be able to talk someone into cutting through the pillars for u and u taking the entire thing away and seperating it, but even that might be slim

the owner of the scrappy which i use is sound, im sure he'll be cool with me grindin the pillars and nicking the skin!

different subject, but have u got any clues about the thread i just posted a second ago, ava look n let me no if poss

    cheers bud

Not sure if any UK spec saxo's came without sunroofs. Some 106's did so try looking for one of them in the scrappy. New panel is around £150 direct from Citroen though. I was quoted £300 to remove roof, refit a non-sunroof skin and paint both sides (with me supplying the replacement roof skin).

and you have to remove the windscreen and get that fitted again. Some not many saxos came without a sunroof,a mate of mine just scrapped a shell without a roof,a 106 is your best bet plenty of them around

would be alot easyer to buy i new skin mate...you could easly bend or buckle taking the doner skin off when drilling and chiseling it off...so yeh new skin mate.

Like has been said if you remove one and re-fit a skin it would be a nightmare, edges will be all flaired up and cut up. And run risk of damaging the main substright of the skin. Alot less effort is needed to fit a brand new skin and will be a much better job.

If your not bothered about the looks, remove the sunroof and then just bond/weld a fibreglass/metal panel over the hole

sounds like a bloody waste of tym unless u do it your self wouldnt it be cheaper to buy another saxo and swap all your mods over and even that would probably be less hassle, or replace the glass with perspex? and if you are gonna change the roof skin go all out and put a carbon fibre one one! thats the only way i can see where it would be worth doing
  14. #14
If ya wanna save weight i think streamlinecarbon do a carbon roof if thats any good?
  15. #15
its like £800 quid without fitting though lol. Another reasonable price from SC
  16. #16
You can buy a genuine skin from Citroen with eth cross members and middle strenthening bar for less than £200 (you will need them all)

Strip the interior out yourself and a bodyshop should be able to remove your boot, front screen and roof and replace for about £400-600 depending on where you go

seems far to much work unless ure gona gt at least 300 brake out of it as the wieght of the sunroof cant be that much and it aint going to make no dif in a saxo vtr just strip out everything and get lightwieght alloys and as said before if youre really wanting a striped out beast carbon fibre the whole lot incl bonnet, bootlid, bumpers etc. dont just get a new steel roof if you cant afford to go proper all out dont do it half as good

    Mine doesn't have a sunroof

I think I should get the ariel smoothed over though

eventually ill be turbo'in a vts lump so ill have quite a lot of power on tap, so weight reduction is a must too as im goin all out to have one quick saxo!

carbon roof skin sounds tempting but it is also very expensive, but i might aswell buy the lightest parts about, no point wasting money on a standard skin!

its a fair bit of work but will all be worth while !

i thought all saxo came with PAS especially mk2's anyway im not to sure on powersteering when it went i hated parking it but driving normally it felt so much better then when i got it back i loved parking the car but i didnt like how light the steering was felt as if i couldnt feel the road at all but cant complain to much lol

    why replace the entire skin?
can't you just get a piece of sheet metal welded in?
would save yourself a lot of trouble.
