split pin or gearbox mount

Ok I've allready searched on the forum about this but cant find a clear answer. My gearstick feels loose/woobly and I want to fix this. Some say you have to change the gearbox mount for a new or aftermarket one, other say you have to bore out the pin in the selector on the box and replace it with the new one.

What would be the best and quikest solution? And are there any guides on this matter?

I would start by checking the gear linkages, if they are worn or a bit lose, then i would buy some uprated gear linkages for around £45 in the UK. After that, if it dosent solve the problem, gearbox mount, however that wont make a huge difference. Also, a quickshift can help stiffen up the gearstick.

However, most standard saxo's have a lose/wobly gearstick, so unless its excessivly wobbly you shouldnt worry too much about this.

its an easy fix mate, knock out the pin in the linkage, redrill it bigger and fit a split pin. i'll post a pic in a sec

shouldnt need to spend any money to fix this problem, and the wobbly gearstick cna easily be cured.

Have to admit though mate he can do the pin and it will be no different, unless he fits a larger one. Had the same problem, done the samw tih no fix, so done what ive advised, job done

i done mine and fixed it, and another box i sold. you need to drill the pin from box and linkage to a larger size and fit a good split pin in.

Williams, is this the same problem I have?

When I move the gearstick left / right, there's loads of play. You can flap it with your pinky and the top of the stick will move over an inch before it actually does anything / gets hard to move!

While moving the stick left / right, I followed the linkage to the gearbox, and found a lever. This lever is all floppy, hence the problem. Never had the problem with my stock box. Happened as soon as I fitted my high mileage S1 box.

    yeah, that should cure it.

ok thanks everyone. Going to try and drill out the pin. If that doesn't work I'll buy some new linkages. Do i need to remove the box?

yes, dont drill the pin out. knock the pin out then drill the hole to what ever size split pin you are using.
