I have Given up on my westy

I have given up on her, I have tried to fix her with all my knowledge and still doing the same thing, I have replaced her with so many new parts.

It still revs so high when i start her.

I have got new ICV, Throttle sensor, new inlet, new throttle bodie.

    Tried it all

    I give up.

id say map sensor is a good one to check
  3. #3
    were abouts is that mate
  4. #4
I got it, its on the inlet, Left hand side
  5. #5
it was dodgy on mine ad everyone said icv ect but that was the culprit
  6. #6
what shall i do clean it? also what with as i dont want to damage it?
  7. #7
    :????
  8. #8
can give it a wipe out but tbh if its that itll be likely be broken

there only about 30 quid though (and that was new off citroen so could prolly get ne cheaper)
  9. #9
Heres a pic of the inside looks like theres nothing there
  10. #10
there a hollow tube and the sensor itself is hidden away inside
so there wont be anything inside
  11. #11
sure you havent got any air or vacuum pipes with splits in etc, this will cause your trouble too, sometimes its the ecu to blame? but id check for loose fitting or damaged pipes etc
  12. #12
    MAP sensor? crank sensor?
  13. #13
I would do what alex said mate replace the map sensor, i did on mine and it helped a great deal
  14. #14
If you've replaced so many parts im guessing £50 worth of diagnostic would be worth a try, if its any sensors causing the trouble that'll show you the problem maker.

not all the time mate it doesnt
  16. #16
well thanks for your help guys, im getting a map sensor this week. If its not that then il check all pipes thanks again

Intersting, cheers for the info Aj

Is it just when you start? My old 1.4 used to rev on it's own, was a faulty temp sensor.
  19. #19
have you sorted it yet bud??
  20. #20
map sensor, ecu temp sensor, or a leaking vacuum on your inlet manifold, they would be the only causes left after replacing what you did

you can test your coolant senseon, strip the wires, and take a multimeter to it, it should read 5v with the ignition on, and then when the car is started, it will gradually reduce voltage to around 0.5v and that will be the temp of the coolant near max, ie fan coming on, if you dont get readings like this, bet your arse on the coolant,

seems like youve got pressure problem tho, which indicates the map sensor, or a leaky inlet

Heyy why dont you spray wd40 around the inlet manifold gasket when engine is running, if the revs increase you know theres a leak there (ie gasket worn, not tightened properly etc).
Also have you checked your throttle cable, prehaps that could be loose.
Dont give up mate, when u crack it you will think back why did i wanna quit on it.

wd40 wont really make a difference to the revs, you shouldbe doing that test with carb cleaner

If you spray wd40 there it will make a difference, it will increase the revs if there is a leak, as the inlet manifold will be sucking it in
  24. #24
carb cleaner is better, as the revs will go up due to the combustion, confirming the leak as it pulls carb cleaner throught the inlet
  25. #25
easy start would be better than both

I don't know about how the Westy manifold gaskets but recently I had my manifold off and it used 4 o-rings to seal it against the head and these were all split and perished. I replaced them with ones from a head gasket kit I got off ebay.

Maybe to rule out the ICV idle system why not block it off completely (by bending the thick rubber breather back on itself etc) and start the engine to see if it still revs up?

Check green temp sensor with a tester, I think resistance is 3000 ohms cold and 200 ohms hot -aprox.

Disonnect ecu overnight to clear any "ecu wierdness" that occurs with Saxo's from time to time as well.

As above, don't give up, step back and look at it logically mate. You'll get there

use brake cleaner dude thats wot i always use
  28. #28
F*ck it choose 1 of them and try it haa
