rev information

    just after some information it isnt for a saxo but i think you engine/performance guys would know the answers im looking for

    im looking at tuning a 4 pot bmw engine, the powerband on the cams stops a 7.8k

    what would i need to upgrade to alloy the engine to rev that high without everything going bang?

    nothing to be fair mate, whats the standard rev limit?? 4 pot?? 4 cylinder??

    what engine is it ?? and to be honest, a 20 min search on a bmw forum, would get you definate answers

    you could rev it that hard on standard internals ect. just get the cams and remap sorted

    rev at 7.8k on standard internals? thats abit far isnt it going from 6k to 7.8k without upgrading internals

    should i atleast upgrade valve springs and things like that?

    i have also been searching for the best cams for it, and i notice that cat-cams do not show the powerband figures e.g 2000-6500rpms, why is this?

    because catcam dont know , i personally would have the whole head rebuilt ew valves, springs etc but you can get them remapped to rev much higher without and mods. just fuel and air mixture mapping

    do you mean new valves and springs or bigger valves and stronger springs mate?

    well either, depending on the millage on the engine. obviously if your going to do it then uprated is the way forward

    yeah, i think il find out how much its going to cost to get a head rebuild with uprated valves and springs

    the cams powerband is 7.8k if i get the car remapped to 8k and just set the limiter to 7.8k on my omex rev limiter with launch control, do you see any problems with that? also will get a new timing chain put on

    sounds good to me, make sure you get the breathing mods sorted on it

    at the moment i have the following...

    green cotten powerflow induction kit with cold air feed pipe
    4-2-1 manifold
    decat
    devil backbox

    looking at upgrading the inlet manifold as i think i would need it as im going to be reving up to 7.8k instead of the standard 6.25k

    i have also got the omex rev limiter with launch control on my car

    So this is an E36 318?
    Is it the IS (16V)?

    it is an e36 318ti mate, 1.9 16v

    too much money mate lol, you have to change the engine, box, diff, loom everything... your looking well over £1k just for the engine let alone the box, diff and other bits n pieces

    be better off doing that though imo, my mate done it to his 328, just bought a crashed m3 and swapped it all over, better than spending loads for 20hp or whatever.

    Williamvts speaks sense here.
    However, isn't the 318ti the 3 series compact?
    If so, (as previously a BMW trained mechanic) this is an asthmatic engine and will take major money to make good power.
    A M3 conversion is even more complicated by the compact size (propshaft and diffs are not upto the job - don't think E46 ones fit either) and would need alot of parts custom fabricating. Would be awesome though.

    edit: might be worth looking to source parts from a Z3 for the M conversion
