Engine pinking?! VTR

    Hi everyone,

Ive had this problem for a while and thought it would have gone away after a good service but no such luck so far.

Ive been told by 2 mechanic friends of mine that the engine is pinking which is the noise i can hear under hard acceleration in 2nd and 3rd gear.

Ive recently given the car a service which included, oil change and filter, new plugs, cambelt. Still no luck. Ive also run some Redex through it and often tried tanks of Shell Optimax with no improvement.

Upon looking at the plugs i would have said the car was running a little lean if anything but i would have thought with modern day fuel injection, under fuelling wouldnt be the problem?

The car has a uprated cam but im unsure which one, pipercross induction kit (which personally i think is crap and will soon change).

Ive done a few searches on here and read some of other peoples experience and most of it seems to revolve around fuel. I also read one about an uprated fuel regulator that you can get? Could this be worth a buy?

    Oh btw its a 2001 Y VTR

    thanks

Do you know if the car has been mapped? because you never know it might not have been.

Also you didnt say that you have changed the fuel filter this would be my next port of call

Pinking can be very damaging to your engine aswell it can bugger up things big time i.e pistons and valve etc.. if you cant solve the problem maybe take it to citroen or an indepent garage to get it up on the diagnostics to see if they can see anything

I'd get the timing checked. If it's not at standard timing, maybe revert back to that?

Not sure whether Saxos have knock sensors - was gonna suggest replacing that.

could well be a timing issue. find out what the cam is and either set the timing as reccommended for the cam or use standard timing.
it could be a bad ecu map to run the cam?

might want a remap i guess, that did go through my mind. Think i will run it up to the local engine guru's place and have him stick it on the rolling road and do a remap.

    thanks guys
