meshing lower bumper

  1. #1
hi all just done a search on this and most of the saxos ive seen with the lower bumper meshed looks really good.
i have a meshed grill so nowb want to mesh the lower bumper.
    just 2 questions
how would i go about removing the slats and does it leave a mark?
    or
if i keep the slats in and just put mesh behind it would the mesh still be noticable.
    thanks

there is 3 ways of doing this..

when you cut out the slats it will leave holes across the bumper, like so:

Then you can either mesh it right at the front so it hides the holes, you can do this by getting some mesh bending it so it fits in then use a sealant such as tiger seal to secure it.

    looks like this:

Or you can take it to a body shop and get the holes filled up and sprayed and mesh place the mesh at the back (imo this is the best option but most expensive)

    looks like this:

Or you can buy a grill insert to place in it. Available from streamline via e-mail.

    looks like this:

(I hope people don't mind me using their pictures, if so let me know an I'll remove them)

thanks very much mate everything i needed to no in one post lol.
i quite like the 2nd picture with the mesh hiding the holes, sticks out a lot better than having the mesh right at the back.
i was looking at the wide mouth inserts but the only ones i have found were in carbon fibre and a little expensive.
    thanks again mate very helpfull

streamline who make the carbon fibre ones for £110 also make plastic ones for £65 but they don't advertise them just email them and they wills end you one i was gonna get a plastic insert but im going euro so im smoothing the widemouth out and respraying the bumper to make it smoother and look more flush

great thought they only had the ones they had on ebay.
will decide between meshing or the insert and will get in touch if i decide to go for the insert.
    cheers mate

yea even on there website them dont advertise them im not sure why and IMO they are a complete rip off on the carbon fibre products even £65 for a bit of unpainted plastic is a rip off but people buy them

is there anyone else that does them or is a case of egay?

i think the only place you can get them is from streamline which yes you can get off ebay off there ebay shop or just go to there website from as far as i no thats the only people i no who do them but if you look around you can find places to spray bumpers for about £60-70 and if you do the prep work your self ie fibre glass and filler it over then sand it down then all you have to get done is the spraying so can work out just as cheap to make it all smooth and flush rather than using an insert

the first is by far the cheapest but i can see it being hard to get the mesh bent right with out completely bending the mesh i dunno ive never done it but it dose look hard to get it looking good

I think that was me who pointed that out

The insert is a good cheap option but IMO getting it filled and sprayed is defiantly the best option. I just need to get a VTS/GTi twin fan set up for mine now.

how much damage could be done and would vts fans be any protection?

and does anyone have pictures of the fans and can you wire them up on a furio, not for performance just for looks?

sorry about the amount of questions lol

the fins on radiators are really easy to bend and just get one stone that hits it hard enough would put a hole in the radiator then it'll piss coolant everywhere lol

shit i pure liked the the look of unmeshed but dont want to compromise the reliability of it
would maybe do a matt black grill then and place it as far back as i could so it would still have the unmeshed look, struggling for ideas
  18. #18
even though im the one who said it can damage your radiator ive been going around fro ages with no mesh behind it and im gonna risk it would take alot to put a hole in it tbh
  19. #19
yeah for the looks alone its worth it
glad someone else likes the unmeshed look

well as im going euro its a big no no to mesh lol like for the grille instead of just taking out the black insert then putting mesh behind im gonna have to cut out chevrons and fibreglass it but will look good when done i hope

dont be fooled by the pictures thou it looks good on them cars coz of the colour of the car and because its clean, depends on colour of car, u dnt want bright mesh on dark car (or on any car in my opinion) but dnt go straight off them pictures, the bumpers may be different have more trim on bottom etc

have you thought about cutting out the vertical slats in the bumber and just leaving the bar along the middle?
  23. #23
wouldnt you still see holes if you just took the slats out and left the one that goes across.

that can actually look quite nice i was thinking of doing it to mine so when i modify the grille it will all match like this
  25. #25
i think the picture above looks better with it because it has the foglights filled in which is more euro aswell, i thought about leaving the bar along the middle but i'm still drawn to the unmeshed widemouth look. just need to find out if anyone has fiitted vts fans on to a furio before?

i like the look of the fans sitting in the space and then you can also colour them if it suits what your going for
  26. #26
yea im still going fro the full wide mouth, well its too late now ive already hacked it all away lol plus ive got the smiley later grille i dont like that grille that comes with the earlier mk1 vtr's, im smoothing over my fogs tho should be pretty easy
  27. #27
They look cool, I wanna do this on my MK2
  28. #28
they cover this in the haynes extreme manual, if u cut the slats out it does leave a hole, but if u then cut the lip off u can bring the grill to the front of the slat holes so it sits about half inch into the bumper. looks awsome and its so easy to do cus u ent gotta shape the mesh or buy anything special. just a few self tappers
