Important! : Modding a 120k Engine! Worth it?

  1. #1
Okay so Ive got a 2000 Mk2 VTS..

I love it but im at a crossroads as to what to do with it!

Basically its done just over 115k. Runs pretty well always serviced if anything its the electrics that are poo.

Im tempted to Strip/cam + get better mods for more power but is it really worth doing to a 100k+ car?

If i was going to do it should i be considering an engine rebuild? How much would that cost etc?

Im just adding up everythin i want atm and it comes to just under 2k atm...

Need help people XD Gimmeh some advice y0!

As long as its been maintained, it will be as good as any engine

Could strip it down, and replace / clean all the parts if you wanted.

should be ok to tune if compression and oil pressures good and to get another block to swap mods over is easy enough

Well my overall feeling is GO FOR IT!

If i gradually build some parts up it gives me time to save for a more standard car to use daily so that this can be a little project!

So if a compression test comes back good and its in okay condition overall i should go for it?

AlexB did it on the gti I sold to him and that had 152k miles still made 137bhp to

my vts had 105k miles on with 155hp - no issues. Just take care of it. Gotta think if your camming it lots of stuff is replaced anyhow

    I dont know!

Gonna wait til ive come back off holiday and see how much Moolah i have left over.

Might treat myself to an Enclosed Filter and some pro race 1.2's and take it from there!

First thing I would spend money on on the car is a rolling road. I've seen a stock 97 VTS with 100k on the clock make 124bhp, so that was all good! Plus you can find out if theres any flatspots etc, and see where to take it from there.

If the headgasket hasnt been done already, get it done when you have the cams fitted.
