De-wipering - Retaining nut?

  1. #1
Where the hell is the 'retaining nut' which holds the wiper into the motor?

I read the guide and it says after removing the boot trim, undo the wiper retaining nut and pull the wiper out. Well ive looked everywhere and I can't see any retaining nut?

The guide is a bit unclear about that step tbh

Right. Did mine this morning, so its all fresh in my head lol.
    1. Take trim off inside of boot, 3 torx screws
    2. Close boot and take off plastic cover on far left of wiper
    3. Undo nut that hold wiper on
    4. Pull wiper off, couple of sprays of wd40 maybe. Or like i did as it wouldnt come off, hacksaw the wiper off without cutting the spindle.
    5. take off plastic nut thing and then close the boot and undo the 2 bolt on the inside of the boot and pull motor out.
    6. get a gromet from under the carpet in the boot and put it in the hole where the wiper was
    7. admire work

    Hope this helps

    Yeah very useful pal!

See the guid completely fails to mention that you have to remove the cover on the actual wiper arm its self!

    Will go re-attempt shortly!

Haha no worries mate, let me know if you get stuck again
  5. #5
Can't see anyway to take the wiper arm's cover off mate? You mean the one that has the spring underneath it right?
  6. #6
yeah lift that bit up and there is a nut under it undo that and the plastic surround
  7. #7
Its normally quite tight but yeah, there is a cover on the end of the wiper which lifts up. Underneath is a 13mm bolt which needs to be undone. Then you can proceed with pulling, swearing, cutting to get it off

Yeah the bit your taking off is on the far left of the wiper (not the wiper blade itself) you can see that its not joined to the rest of the wiper blade. i just pulled/bent the sides of this smaller piece off and there lies your 13mm nut

brute force is the way forward when de wipering. Just dont smash the glass! ( heard of it done before) deffinatly worth the sweat and swering. mine came of in 5 mins

Ahhh now I feel like a right fool! that bit on the wiper literally comes up on a hinge like a little flap, then the huge retaining nut is there staring you right in face!

Doesnt seem to be coming off though, left it soaking in a bit of WD, darent be too hard on it coz I have a friend who broke hsi rear windscreen doing this, failing that out will come the hacksaw

there is a plastic bit surrounding the stem that needs to be unscrewed to mate

After pulling away at that rear wiper, the hacksaw will make you feel better
Just watch out for slipping and scratching the paint, and remember to not cut too near the spindle. you can always break remaining bits off with some pliers

No hacksaw or strong amount of force was needed!

Did the sensible thing n left it to soak in a bit of WD40, then I went back about 20 minutes later n got the hair dryer on it n warmed it up!

Only took a wee pull to get the bugger off

Thanks for all your help lads

Wish i'd thought of a hair dryer before the hacksaw came out....

lol i use a hair dryer on everything! got a niece long extension cord so im always robbin my mums hair dryer n takin it outside, makes loads of jobs sooo easy its a really good tool! its basically a heat gun i suppose, it works amazingly for taking stickers off too.

Also, I realised that despite my car being a mk2, it had a mk1 wiper? so that could be why i was finding it so hard to find the cap thingy on the wiper arm lol. mines the metal kind
  16. #16
I had the same problem with my mk2, i couldnt work out were the nut was, brute force was the answer. Now i cant find the WD40 when i need it

Am i the only person that managed to dewiper their car in 10 minutes without any WD40?!

mine just unbolted like it was new. but i guess the little plastic bolt was a bastard!

    Yes. Mine took 5...!

I attempted mine yesterday and give in, im not interested in sawing it off and i must have used half a can of WD. Stubborn as it was i can live with it
  20. #20
i tryed top do it last year. couldnt pull off the wiper so gave up. then winter came and i thought thank fuck i didnt pull it off
  21. #21
mine came off easy i unbolted retaining nut and all the plastic parts then just lifted the wiper arm. i once did a single wiper conversion and found that using the wiper as a leaver made it easy
  22. #22
Mine came off easy apart from the bastard plastice nut thing. Was a right c*nt
  23. #23
Done quite a few with no problems. Usually takes 5 mins!
  24. #24
Done mine this morning - does everyone end up with a ring around the grommet where the big original plastic washer on the outside has scraped into the glass and left a circular shaped gouge in the glass ?

Does everyone remove the rear washer hose as its now not needed - can you blank it off on the motor so it wont squirt even if the button is pressed ?
  25. #25
Just out of interest will the wiper arm come off easier if the motor is taken off the boot first?
  26. #26
u on about where the bolt is that holds wiper to the motor?
