MOD Furio Engine? Or Vtr Conversion?

  1. #1
Hi. Before you say... i have searched and read... yet still have questions.

    1) Ive read that a vtr engine will fit into my mk2 furio no problem. Would a mk2 vtr engine still fit fine (since extra bhp than mk1)?

    2) I would need a mk2 vtr ecu aswell? They cheap / easy to fit and do they have to be mapped etc?

    3) Price wise... last time i saw a vtr engine up for sale i saw it was like £150 but didnt get a chance to see much. Would a 2002+ vtr engine with like 50 - 60k miles be pricey? And also the ecu?

    4) What else would really be needed / why not get whilst at it? Like... i know you could probs have the standard furio radiator... but would a vtr one have any effect?

    5) Ive been told that a decat (4-2-1 mani) + ss full system (with straight through centre secton) and a induction kit would see me near 10hp (if im lucky lol). However also been told that just a mani and straight through pipe would give gains and sound near that with a aftermarket zorst aswell.

    6) Panel filters still give noise?

    ----------

Yes im lazy and like questions

Just getting bored of furio lol but want to keep it as i like how it looks.

Also is a vtr engine something you declare... or is it like a car upgrade so a whole new quote?

Quoted 3k+ on a vtr so... hopefully by doing a conversion it will cost less than 1K+...

Anything else... like if you have done this conversion then please post.

    Thanks

    Craig

as far as i know the engine will fit, you will need a vtr ecu and you wont need it mapped or anything, unless if the ecu is from a different engine i think thats where unlocking it comes in.
and with the engine price i have just won a vtr engine with 64k for £51 on ebay lol with ecu and everything, it is worth checking ebay out

Engine will fit fine, i'd definately go for the r engine rather than mod your furio, can pick a vtr lump up VERY cheap, that will come with ecu, you can still use your loom as long as you go for a mk2 vtr engine, use same radiator, same shafts, same gearbox, very easy conversion!

Yep be fine! Same chassis if thats what your worried about, so can easily take it.

Will need a Mk2 VTR ECU aswell, easy to fit, no need for another map, just get it unlocked, can buy unlocked VTR ECUS for around £100-£140

VTR engines dont go for so much, look to pay about £200 for one of them.

    4) What else would really be needed / why not get whilst at it? Like... i know you could probs have the standard furio radiator... but would a vtr one have any effect?

A VTR rad isnt any different to a 1.4 rad. Just do engine mounts, bushes and mounts while the engines out. Maybe a fresh Rad.

All engine will see different gains, but yeh you can see them gains from them mods.

    6) Panel filters still give noise?

Not really, but a grreen or K&N filter is a god move over an open induction, failing that get an enclosed induction in a similar design to the racelands and green, simota etc over the BMC's

It will have a different engine code, so to keep it legal then decalre it and VIC checked. However they look the same, alot of poeple will just lok over it.

very easy to do yourself mate, if you've got some space and can get hold of an engine crane, also the best way to learn!

    Yeah sounds like a plan.

Sounds like a father and son project tbh. (Just what he wants as his surprise for fathers day)

Deffo conversion, the 1.4s a turd to uprate its stupidly restricted, the intake system and manifold being the worst culprits.

PSA made a 1.3 with 100 brake but only managed 75 on the 1360, made for economy and on a budget tbh

VTR lumps a much better shout, although still restriced in certain areas again the inlet mani isnt great but its better than others, its still a good lump. Takes to boost well on STD internals too if you dont go crazy with the pressure

And my bad lol, I meant basiaclly you can turbo them without spending a lot of money
  12. #12
Lol oh right. Turbo-ing is way out there... for now.

Hopefuly this can happen soon if i source the parts, ill go to the local scrappie and see if theres any hidden talent...

It would make a tiny bit of difference. Would probably just be louder

Erm has throttle bodies, each cyliner has its own throttle body and inlet pipe. Quite hard to describe but look like this:

Thats just a random image I found btw

oh right, so how much are them beasts?? do they make noticeable difference??

we had to take one of those off at uni for "Formula Student" as the engine has to be slightly restricted. replaced it for a plenum with just one throttle on it which controls the air flow for all 4 cylinders. the car still goes like the clappers tho...properly fast! lol
