90bhp and 98bhp vtr

hi im just wondering is ther much difference in speed between 90bhp and 98bhp mk2 vtr??
  2. #2
    8 bhp lol

on a serious note it just depends what condition etc the cars are in and how well they have been looked after as to whether you will notice the difference

on the road its not noticable, How ever many 98hp owners will preach how theyre well faster init blud.
  4. #4
    lol ok cheers
  5. #5
0.8 seconds in the 0-60 times 9.9 and 9.1 iirc

Havn't tried both cars but if there is an 8bhp difference then you should feel the difference as its almost 10% increase. Obviously as said in above posts you could have pristine mk1 running just under 90 and a thrashed mk2 running under 75 so you just take your chances tbh.

yea, i have a mk2 90bhp 1 and it feels to pull realy well, and feels more torque than my old 98bhp engine i had in a 106

also lower tax and better fule economy in the 98bhp engine

ive driven both (standard) when i was looking for a vtr. and i thought the 98bhp one slightley quicker

My mate had a Hammerd Vtr 90 model mk1....125k on the clocks! smashed it twice.. really never looked after it.. had a back back and no middle box... standard air box..

Put it on the dyno and Pushed Out 92bhp! Still cant belive it!

Ohh sorry went on the dyno with no back box!

    the 98bhp is marginally quicker

90bhp one has cat under the car and 98bhp is on the manifold. as standard cars IMO 90bhp is faster because its has less retriction in exhuast
  14. #14
lmao how can you say that? fair play you said imo but wtf,

Tbh mate 90bhp one has the same cat as the mk2 bar the positioning so the restriction is exactly the same unless decatted then the mk2 airbox is less restrictive.

ive got a mk2 98bhp and my brother got a mk1 90bhp mine pulls off quicker not that much just enough to say mines faster....
  17. #17
In the end the only people who say there isn't much in it, are those with the 90bhp engine. My 98 we estimated would have made about 101 standard. A fair bit quicker than the 90 model.
  18. #18
this is stupid debating it. as standard, in the exact same condition, the mk2 will be marginally faster, and yes will feel marginally quicker.

beacuse it has 8bhp extra. End of.

There are to many other factors that can determin it. If you had a 90bhp VTR and a 98bhp VTR, both properly maintained, then the MK2 VTR (98bhp) Would just creap past.
But, say if the 98bhp hasnt been maintained awell as the 90bhp, then they would be about even. Also little things like if there is loads of crap in the car? If the spare wheel is still in, type of tyres, Driver weight, DRIVER SKILL is another key factor.

There is too much to determin, but most of the time the mk2 will be marginally quicker.

I've driven both my brother in laws mk1 doesnt seem to have the same pull and feels a bit heavier but it's not that noticeable when you're doing national speed, mainly the pull off but made me appreciate getting back into mine... shamed to admit i actually enjoyed the mk1 because it felt more glued to the ground

always found the 98bhp gets better mpg aswel

cheaper tax more mpg its the one to go for imo.

although there is this myth, which tbf is mostly true, 3plugs have more problems and dont see as much gain from mods.

my vtr engine never went wrong at all (3 plug 98vhp) and responded very well to basic breathing mods

The '3 plug' myth, is a load of rubbish, it really really is, there is NO reason for there to be any differences. My 98 engine is at 124 now... Doesn't sound like it's "having problems" from mods to me...

Have owned a 90 bhp and 98 bhp mark 2 vtr and too be honest there isnt much difference, the main thing i noticed when i got my 98 bhp vtr was that the powerband was higher up the rev range.
