Not sure for a BMC direct replacement, but try and do this
Use samco hoses etc

did you have to use a mesh or something to stop stones and large debris getting sucked into the pipework?

Doesnt matter if it does get debris in there, thats what the filter is for.
I just bought a 1m length of ducting from Merlin motorsport and butchered an old fog light into a cold air feed for mine.

Yea but its easy to take apart and clean. Might have the odd leaf or feather but not much.
Think my 3"m was £18 or something

maybe the best set up but doesn't increase air flow etc as its the ecu that allows the amount of air in at any time..
If you wanted to increased air flow then thats what turbos are for..

So once you reach a certain point, no more air will help? As the ECU only lets a certain ammount in?

It isnt getting more air in, but providing a better supply or cooler air.

cool air is denser so contains more oxygen and the ecu puts more fuel in to compensate for the extra air which gets in because of the less restricting ducting on aftermarket induction kits
so:
More oxygen=Bigger bangs=More power (not really noticable on small engines)
i prefer just a panel filter in the standerd air box, and i have had a bmc

It's still better to use a cold air feed into the standard box with panel filter anyway. It's less restrictive than the orginal pipe and will stay cooler because it get's there faster (due to less restrictions).
