interchangable rear beams?

hey guys,

just wondered if the 1.1 rear beam and associated torsion bars were interchangable with that of the furio? Just i could pick up a cheap, good condition one to replace my one on the way out if so.

should be a straight swap but aint the 1.1 a 3 stud?

Yeh all work together. If its an early mk1 then it will be 3 stud as said though. Also the ARBs aint as thick irc on the 1.1s as the furios.

yeah, get one off any saxo or 106, if its from a 1.1 put your tb's, arb and hubs on it,. im not sure if the hubs are interchangeable but if they arent i know the trainling arms definately are

sounds good to me ... im planning buying and changing it over then loweruing ... im looking at a few hours work eh. are there any tell tale signs of wear i should look out for?

From what I can make out, only the really knackered ones show off the car. It needs to be on the car so you can apply pressure in the right places tbh

Why would you do that?

If he buys a whole rear beam from a VTR he can just bolt off his old one, bolt on his new one and only needs to change the handbrake cables, rather than fannying around with ARB's and taking the Torsion bars out etc.

Plus the added bonus of having a rear disc beam, I wouldn't bother buying a 1.1/Furio one mate, it's still drum brakes, and unless you can get one significantly cheaper, you may as well go for a VTR beam which is disc brakes. Just that tiny bit better stopping power if needed, could make all the difference one day.

An entire second hand beam from a VTR in good condition should cost around £120-150 so isn't even that expensive.

Differences are

Drum w/3stud
Drum w/4stud
Disk w/o ABS
Disk w/ ABS

Also 106's are the same

As stated different ARB's etc, but a direct fit

well tbh im not too bothered about drums at the back ... im in the process of upgrading my front brakes, and although its a good idea to upgrade the rear too ... round my area there are not a plethora of VTR/S. so its likely to be a furio or lower. How long (of course if things are freely moving ish) would it take to remove a whole rear beam and associated parts?

right i have the opertunitiy to buy one (granted i have to pull it myself) for bout 45 quid. Worth it? it is a flatarch as none of the scrappies round me have anything above a furio.

£45 for the beam is a bargain mate!

I think theyre the same as the furio ones anyway, same spacing etc, if not just pick some spacers up if your really that bothered.

Will fit anyway, get some mounts while your at it.

Get some powerflex mounts mate. about £45ish i think.

hmmm im a bit poor atm...ill se what i can scrape together. How do they help .. im guessing stiffen up the back end somewhat?

Yeh, everylittle helps, just makes the rear end more solid feels more well built, more durable too, thouh not essential.
