In the latest EVO magazine, page 20, there is an article about track days tyres being outlawed.

Apparently there is to be new legislation for minimum specs tyres have to achieve, rolling resistance, external noise, wet weather grip etc.

They state Dunlop Direzza, Toyo 888, Pilot Cups and ACB10.

Well a quick search on google finds loads of articles on this subject. Worryingly most of the articles from the tyre manufacturers are about the safety implications of the new legislation and how badly it will affect the wet stopping ability of the tyres. One example article below, there are plenty more.

This has obviously been discussed for some time as there are articles dating back to the beginning of 2008.

But R888's A048R's etc are advertised as road legal track tyres, i doubt theyll carry on to produce a "track only" tyre as i'm sure sales will dwindle when theyre no longer road legal.

On the contrary they may carry on producing them and sway them more toward the slick limit as they no longer have to be road legal! But then the price will fly up.

If course they will carry on making track only tyres, unless you suddenly expect several forms of motorsport to suddenly start doing them on uniroyal rainsports lol

Wonder what some of the club events will do ? some them only allow road legal tyres.

Will rally tyres be effected ? as they have to travel between stages

But what i'm saying is whether they will carry on making "affordable" track only tyres, that were road legal, hence had a bigger market.

And to compete in a rally on a stage, they must be road legal (in the uk at least) so there is no problems there.

Well ive got enough sets of wheels and rubber to keep me happy. At last one proposed law that doesnt fuck me off.

can you believe that this is going to be imposed but when you think about it the surface of road has as much if not greater effect on this. round here ive noticed that on some roads they just layed down aload of loose road chippings instead of resurfacing the road and we were used as steam rollers pressing it down as we come through. now tell me were the sense in that is?? loose chippings yeah sure ull stop and roll well on that. and its still like it a year on. its crazy relly. give better roads well use better tyres.
