vtr/vts engine conversion on a 1.1 how easy isit

  1. #1
im looking at doing a vtr or vts engine convertion on my 1.1 has anyone done this and did you face any problems.
all replys will be greatly apprectiated thanks
  2. #2
yes, drivers side mount needs replacing
  3. #3
    more than replacing rauches

it needs the cradle welding in place to be able to change the mount
you can use the 1.1 mount but its not ideal at all
  4. #4
can you attach the 1.1 mount to the vts bracket to avoid any welding?
i asuume its much much better to weld a bracket properly and use a full vts mount and bracket?
  5. #5
    i said you can
but tbh it wont be much good

ive no idea what the 1.1 mount looks like. how is it different?
  7. #7
    probably not worth doing mate

dont listen to that, its well worth doing. a great example is willsy on here, he started off with a 1.0 saxo scandal, and now its a vts beast. just takes some money and time

If you know someone who can weld, then it's no obstacle at all really. It just involves once the 1.1 engine is out, welding in the VT mount bracket onto the inner wing on the chassis, once done it's no diffrent from a VTR-VTS conversion.

Obvious problem being it will take a little bit longer to do, to weld it in, and you'll need to have everything in place and ready for when you do it, but tbh it's no problem at all.

and he insures it as a scandal and the extra 0.6 litres and 8 valves are insured as 1 mod?

i asked about doing this to my car and everyone told me not to bother and to just buy a vts!

i wouldnt pay for a conversion to be done, the fun is in doing it yourself.
if your paying labour dont bother, if you can get an engine for a good price and can do the work yourself then do it!

Sorry is this a question or a statement or?

I got quoted £966 for a VTS Conversion on a 1.1, and with a VTS itself it was £1200. You just have to speak to the right companies EG Adrian Flux, Brentacre, Chris Knott etc.

When declaring the Engine conversion it's best to ring up and do it, so your absolutely sure everything is right and your completely covered.

I would do a VTR convo to a 1.1, vts is a bit too much.

Hmm not sure I completely agree, I don't how it's any different as long as the brakes and the suspension all the cooling etc are upgraded too.

    What makes you say that?

VTR engines are cheaper/easier to get lol and for a 1.1 shell its decent enough without having to change a lot of other things.
  17. #17
cheers for your help guys il let you know if i go ahead with it

Its a lot more work on a 1.1 over higher models, 1.1 suspension is shite and youll need to replace everything if your cars a three studder, VT ARB, the lot. And a rear axle.

So basically if you love your 1.1 do it but if not and youd be happy with a VTS then buy one. With a 1.1 youd literally be changing every mechanical part in a conversion bar the steering rack lol. If you did it properly anyway

i have a 1.1 mk 1 and a vts mk 1 but vts had rear end smash so im wanting to convert 1.1 to vts would it be worth it .. i would get a vts but i got the smashed 1 for £100.. also what problems can there be such as engine mount etc

    thanks dave

willsy has it insured with adrian flux iirc
i know he declairs all mods and has declaired it to the dvla

i think its declaired as non standard engine and then the mods to it on top of that aswell as the bodykit interior ect
