Xsi Gearbox into MK1 VTS, what driveshafts?

  1. #1
I recently bought a reconned g/box from Colin at ATspeed, once fitted It made a horrible crunching sound and I thought it was f***ed. I took it back today and Colin couldnt find anything wrong with it, what he did find was a n/s GTi/VTS driveshaft he had didnt fit into the box properly and when I had fitted the box previously I thought my VTS shafts fitted in fine.

Now iv taken the box back home iv found my spare o/s VTS driveshaft seems to fit properly into the both sides of both my old VTS box and this XSi box

What drive shafts do I need to fit this box to my VTS? And can anyone confirm the box code: 20CE81.

    Cheers

    crunching sounds like it's internal.

'sports' driveshaft will fit - so vt* sriveshafts.

So my VTS driveshafts should fit fine and iv been told bull?

    yes they should fit fine.

i tried to fit an s2 box using a 1.4 westcoast driveshaft and it hit the diff and stuck out and leaked. Ive now got a vt" driveshaft and it's perfect.

I hope your wrong mate because it also seems like the box code is for a 1.1, starting to look like iv been had

yes - the code relates to a saxo image 1.1 gearbox. If this is the box you have fitted - then the vt* shaft would have still fitted I would have thought.

My reasoning behind this is that I went from a 1.4 gearbox to a s2 gearbox - the diff sat out further, and as such i needed a vt* driveshaft (shorter end) so it would fit into the gearbox all the way. When i tried to fit my 1.4 driveshaft into the s2 box, it would hit the diff with still around 1" of shaft protruding from the gerarbox seal, as such it leaked fluid.

I would imagine (although I've not tried) that the vts shaft would fit into the 1.1 box as the vt* shaft end would be shorter - this may account for the noise?

hope the above makes sense ?

VTS drive shafts will fit a 1.1 box. Got a 1.1 on mine atm.

So his drive shaft probably wasnt even from a Peugeot/Citroen. The gearbox is probably fucked and my driveshafts should fit fine even if it is a 1.1/XSi box? And colin from ATspeed has basically told me a load of porkies?

yes by the sounds of it. I havnt tried a vts shaft on a non sports (1.1/1.4) box - but from the sounds of it they do fit fine - I can see why they'd be okay.

Somethings a miss matey. My VTS shafts work fine in the 1.1 box. No leaks etc! Works spot on.
