Spitting flames out of throttle bodies

  1. #1
Basically I started my car for the first time today after I fitted the throttle bodies,I started it without the throttle pot wired in and it ran very lumpy for a few seconds spat a flame out of the inlet then I turned it off.

Basically did it do it because the throttle pot wasn't wired in so the ecu wouldn't have known what was going on,or could it be another problem?

    Ermmm... somethings not right
  3. #3
    I know that
  4. #4
Isnt backfiring like that timing related? Plug everything is and see if it works?
  5. #5
timing related surely? there shouldnt be ignition when the inlet valves are open
  6. #6
Yea that would make sense, except I haven't altered the timing,it was set by car worx when the car was cammed two years ago.

maybe the amount of air and fuel is causing early detonation or somethin?
  8. #8
Maybe.I honestly have no idea tho.

your best bet is to speak to someone like alexr ryan, someone with experience of them. or ring a proper garge tomorrow instead of listening to people say something for the sake of it to look good.

I'm hoping Ryan or someone will notice the thread.

What management? What map are you using for them?
    Have the bodies been balanced?

timing is out. when we are setting up a carburettor car at work and it spits through the intake like that usually means the timing is out.

on a twin coil system i once put the leads on wrong and got them a 180 degress out. and it is usually to much advance in our case.

I have kms ecu,but when I started it the tps wasn't wired in as really I was just checking the fuel lines.

If the timing is out it has been like that for over two years so isn't that unlikely?
  14. #14
its because you have no tps, the voltage for ecu will be all over the place hence the ign timing out and throwing fuel out of inlet
  15. #15
Thanks for that danny, that's what I was hoping but I wasn't sure.
  16. #16
    does it work now mate?
  17. #17
    I recon it is overfueling.
  18. #18
LOL had my car blow its air filter off a few times before it was all setup. If you have not messed with the engine it self it will just be the mapping is way out. I could get flames a good foot tall from my AX at times. Get it all wired up and then see where your at.
  19. #19
Yea I will wire in y
  20. #20
Yea I will wire in the throttle pot tomorrow and see what it does .
  21. #21
    thats not good
  22. #22
it's a too lean mixture mate... basically it's burns so slowly that it it's still burning when the the intake valve is opened.
  23. #23
mine did this til it was mapped

if you're unsure how to calibrate the tps, drop me a pm.
  24. #24
Its sorted now,it was the tps not been calibrated that did it.

    shamone.

    smooth running?
