Ported & Polished Head With Few Other Bits

Hi guys,

I have the single plug vtr (90bhp) in my mark 2 saxo.

With the following Mods What Rough sort of power should I have? I know there are factors such as cam profile etc but just a rough idea..

Supersprint Stainless Steel 4-2-1 Manifold
Stainless Steel De-cat
Supersprint Race Centre Pipe
Supersprint Race Backbox

Piper-X open air filter (with good air flow & positioned so that heat soak isn't caused)

Ported & Polished head with new headgasket and a fast road cam.
Ported & Polished Throttle Body

And a good service to go with it followed by a remap...

How long is a bit of spring?

At a guess from 80 to 140 bhp but it really does vary massively on specifics.

I know that is the thing, it could vary massively but a 50bhp range is a bit wide...

Taking specifics into account what sort of power...

I was thinking somewhere around the 110-115 mark at the fly...

I haven't had the headwork done mate, i was looking into buying a head which is for sale which has had headwork done by a company called hi-flow i think?

Supposed to be a good job...

Hi-flow heads mate, will be a good head then.

Don't think I can afford just yet, unless the parents etc are especially generous for my birthday. Will be a couple months before I can... but this is the one that got me thinking...

Wouldnt you rather save up and get some cams and a remap?

The head wont make that much of a difference, for the money.

Yeah, i am just checking all avenues, if i got another head though, i could do a load of work to it with help from the dad and bash it on mine afterwards.. so my car is not off the road etc..

See your point though mate

I have to weight it up, it's an advantage of having no cash

IMO that sort of spec will see around 130 bhp, but it will fly for sure!

Porting is a very precise job, slightest fook up and your will have a useless head. Best left to experts.

It would get sent to experts for all precision jobs, what i mean is i get a load of work done to a head and then me and my dad fit it and set it up with a remap etc...

just saves my whole car being in and out of the garage...

saxo...he didnt mean he is going to port and polish it himself just fit cams, etc himself and then fit the head once its the spec he wants... straight swap

Hi-Flow are known to may as Lo-Flow. I have only had limited experience with them and found them to fall well short of my expectation. The first time I seen one of there heads close up I actually thought some one had sent me the wrong head as it was a right mess. They were never a patch on GMC or what was Longman if were talking quality and performance. I hear nothing but good things about QEP though I have never used them my self. I would recommend avoiding Hi-Flow and L.A.D. from what i have seen.

Also heard a lot of bad reviews of these guys, well hi flow heads anyway. Common sense to avoid LAD lol.

And any pictures of a hi flow heads, head?

They cant be that bad, other wise they wouldnt still be in buisness would they?

Does not work like that I am afraid. Take for example Longman who is one of the most successfully Mini, MG, Peugeot and Citroen tuners of all time who have a reputation of being one of the best tuners in motor sport. They made engines for everything from works rally cars to touring cars. Yet they are no more.

Yet the likes of LAD who according to there web site they reckon they can get 40bhp out of a VTS by just porting a head (stock valves). They reckon they can get 50bhp from a ported head (stock valves) and a exhaust. They also reckon they can get a extra 30bhp from a VTR by simply porting a head (standard valves) That a third extra power from an otherwise standard car. Are still going strong even though there cars never get even close to the power they say.

So there power figures are over the top, just expect 10 or 20bhp less

iv also heard bad things about hi-flo and was told to avoid them.

Also first hand dealing's with lad also makes me recomend to anyone to steer clear.
theres alot of repuatble people out there,QEP being one.
