hi ive just got a saxo and have noticed a grinding noise from the front passenger wheel whilst driving im thinking maybe need new wheel bearings is it a hard job to change them or is better to let a garage do it cheers

garage maty as you need a special tool as they have to be pressed in & out.

looking at some previous posts i jacked the car up to see if there was any play in the wheel and it feels more or less the same as the other front wheel so i am not sure about it being the bearings now what else should i look at?

if you spin the wheel round and listen to see if you can hear the humming sound. if you do then its defo the bearing.

My wheel bearing was completely shagged. Grinded like a bitch whilst driving. But had no play in the wheel and couldnt hear anything whilst spinning the wheel by hand.

It is possible to do yourself, with a big vice, hammer and certain size sockets or to save on some costs you can do what I did. Which was to remove the strut yourself, take it to a local garage and get them to press the old one out and new one in for you. They shouldn't charge you a lot.
