Refurbing Steelies

  1. #1
I cant really afford alloys, so I'm going to refurb the steelies. And just wanted a few (Well... Two...) points cleared up:

    1. Rust - Will that just sand off? Or will i have to treat it first?
    2. How far do I have to sand it down? To metal? Or just till smooth?

I'm giving it ago on my spare wheel first, then if that goes well and looks good I'm going to do the wheels one by one - I dont know whether to do Black or Rover Stone Grey.. Opinions?

    Cheers

I done mine a few weeks back and they look decent, sand down so the rust is off and smooth, dosent have to be bare metal, give it a few coats of primer, sanding in between then when happy apply some layers of chosen colour ( i used black ) and viao you have some new looking steels, i even sprayed a white lip on mine...

See here for a bit of help

I used a wire brush on mine first to get rid of all the flakes of rust. Then finished off with a fine sandpaper and they came out good.

no point going black again as it very standard id go a light or dark grey colour not over the top but subtle and good looking
