tinting rear lights

    when tinting my rear lights how do i know if they are a legal shade or not thanks

    The shade of the tint is irrelevant.
    It's the amount of light that shines through that matters and you'll probably have no way of testing that.
    The only safe thing to do is buy uprated bulbs that shine brighter to compensate for the darker lens.

    Colour does matter as if it disclosures the light it is illegal. But then going by the letter of the Law any tinning or any lights is illegal and the Police do have the power to do something about it. Not to mention MOT testers are perfectly entitled to fail you car for it. Then again you can fail a MOT for having dirty lights, the police can also do you for that too lol.
