Resealing manifold - exhaust join

  1. #1
Pretty sure i've located the spot where my exhaust is blowing, it's where the manifold joins onto the downpipe? (correct name?), looks like it needs removing, cleaning and re-attaching.

Will get a picture up tomorrow showing the joint I mean so you can confirm etc.

How easy does it come apart?
Do I need to jack it up or can I do it with it flat?

    Cheers fellas!

Unbolt it, wire brush, bit of white spirit to remove all the crap, replace gasket if there is one there, couldnt tell you if there is or not, then wipe it all down with some WD40 including the bolts and put it back together

If its still blowing, then you could use some liquid gasket around the edges

Turns out it wasn't just the seal that was gone, there was a hair line crack around the one of the pressed edges...it should be cast anyway but Citroen and their money saving ways thought different!

The previous owner had lost / forgot to replace the screw which holds the exhaust to the chassis towards the front of the car so it had been wiggling around under the car like a dick in a bucket, all the weight was on the join and it cracked it.

Have got my mate to run a line of welding over it so that should be sorted at long last!

im just after fixing mine as the exhaust kept blowing out at the manifold, so i decided to get a new manifold (cost about £15) and new gasket. to ensure that it didnt keep blowing out, i decided to use fire cement and smeered it round the joint so that it doesnt (hopefully) blow out anymore

Problem fixed, quick line of weld run over the crack and all is well now!

Now to crack on with the wire brush & high temp. paint.

I've seen this a few times, its when people do work on the gearbox and dont replace the bolt for this, they just dont bother putting it back on. Then the manifold eventually moves till it cracks. At least you got it sorted, just make sure you put that bolt back in place.

I don't have the bolt, that's the point!
The previous owner must have forgotten to replace it!

Anyone know the length / thread of it?

its a m6 bolt 10mm hex head iirc. And about 60mm length maybe? just buy a pack of nuts and bolts from a local motor factor and use a hacksaw to cut the bolt down to th riht size
