unlocked ecu on another motor

if i wer to try an unlocked ecu, on a standard gti, could this lock the unlocked ecu, just the people who carried out my conversion have sent me "an unlocked ecu" but i put it on my car, wont spark mine, but turns it over, which to me shows it aint unlocked, put my ecu back on, and car runs again

    so my questions

this sounds like the ecu is locked huh??
and if i wer to try it on a standard gti, would that gti transponder lock the ecu to that car??

If you were to unplug the immobiliser box of the gti and plug in the Ecu it should work if it's unlocked.

It's important you unplug the immobiliser box or you'll lock the Ecu

so if i wer to unplug the immobilser box, this is the one under the steering column, then plug my ecu in, if it wer unlocked the motor should start, the ecu is unlocked??

just it wont start my car, which is a 16v quicksilver conversion, and i already have an unlocked ecu, just want to test if my ecu is working ok
    cheers

the whole unlocked/re-lock/removing the transponder box depends totally on how it was unlocked in the first place. The ones that are unlocked via disconnecting the transponder with the engine running are the most prone to locking, if it doesnt start with the transponder in.. it shouldnt start with it removed, if it WAS unlocked it would have started the car in theory.

How come youve got it anyway if yours is working ok?

    steering column !?

Its under the passenger side of the dash behind the glovebox.

If you try and start the car with it still in with a different unlocked ECU, you'll lock the ECU.

This has been discused a stupid amount of time on here. It's not rocket science to search and then follow the instructions.

my car was converted, but i keep gettin problems when the car gets warm, and it wont run properly, so i thought the ecu might be fucked, the person who converted it sent me an ecu, but it wont spark, so im assuming its locked, so wanted totry the ecu in another motor just to make sure it works, and its not just my motor
