What Problems Do you have with your Saxo ?

    I'll Start with mine (Pretty pointless thread i know, but im boerd shitless)

    Indicator Stalk Goes absolutely nuts at the slightest touch (Need new one)

    Clutch is rather stiff, anyone elses like this ?

    Never goes into reverse properly and gearbox is very stiff, dosn't like being put in gear really, how can i loosen it up a bit, different linkages ?

    My car looks to have had a crash on the front left corner area, but has been repaired properly, Still i dont like things like this Fucking WANKER of Auto Trader

    Who ever had my sax before me didnt look after it (bodywork wise) quite alot of chips on bonnet and scratches around the car

    Thats all i can think of for now

    did you look at the car before you got your wallet out, sounds like most of it could of been avoided by getting a car that wernt fucked to start with, imo

    My balljoint is fucked (need a new bolt) and my track end rod is nakaraed. Also my arches are loose.

    i fell in love with it the moment i saw it tbh, The bodywork isnt bad bad, its basically what you expect for a 10 year old car, But i like things to be perfect so i do go over the top a bit, i heard the problems with the clutch being stiff and shitty gearboxes is common on saxos

    Mines not too bad,

    Squeaks for the first 10mins when it's cold, when it jolts, coming off the accelerator and clutch (annoying)

    Horn is very intermittent
    Ready for some new brake pads

    Thats about it really.

    My problem is its still there..................Bonnet needs respray, drivers arch dosnt fit proerly, angel headlights dont fit flush with bodywork, alarm has auto arm, even when ur driving it..........But i forget about this when im driving it, was given a 1.8 16v modeo as a courtasy car, it was so slow compared to my 1.4 saxo

    New windscreen

    New wipers and arms
    Morettes need sidelights sorting
    New brake light
    Fogs fitting
    New interior & doorcards
    Dent in door sorting
    Wheels sorting

    And you guys think you've got it bad! LOL

    exhaust blows
    boost valve floods engine ( i think) either that or its to do with the ecu its been changed by previous owner - camco 88 ecu ??
    car cut out at 125 the otherday
    abs light comes on and off
    cant drive slow it jolts (clutch? gearbox? who knows.)
    airbag light
    knocks on full lock
    loose front bumper
    brackets broke on skirts
    under the car its all dented in and the black rubber stuff is peeling off where some twat has jacked it up in the wrong place ( i assume)
    drivers seat worn
    sunroof handle rattles like mad, my last one done that tho

    apart from that its a good car, better than my old clio 1,8

    Wow!, I didnt realise there was this many problems, my engine runs absolutely sweet, Gearbox is absolute shite, does everyone have this problem ?

    Pred: Wanna sell you car ? haha, If i could by a new saxo and change the things on it such as rear beam, better gearbox, Would probably be the best car in teh world, fuck all the computers and sht

    My seats are shit your brake and the back comes forward, shitty VTS interior.

    Also how can i tell if my rear wheels are cambered, do i just jack the back end up and see if when i pull the wheel back and forth for excessive play ?

    that squeak wen cold aint loud at all i can only just hear it, it was only one squeak on the fan belt so prob gonna replace cambelt aswell cause i think it needs doin soon anyway

    i had the same squeak on my vts and it turned out to be the crank pulley gone. theres rubber membrane separating the outer and inner part of the pulley and that went on mine. mine squeaked exactly the same as yours by the way

    -i have a golf ball dent in the bonnet
    - need new bumper as i hit two pheasants in 7 days in the winter on motorway (and i ran over a football the other day as some chavs were pissing about)
    - hanbrake light doesnt come on the dash when handbrake is on
    - soo many squeaks and rattles

    my gearbox is stiff and sqeaks when changing gear.
    also clutch is a tad hard.
    new brake pads smoke ALOT.
    dint in driver side front panel
    crack in back bumper
    dint in front bumper
    crack in windscreen
    rusted cat box

    but not had it long and not got enough money to do major things yet

    Mines got a few things to be done. but for a 1998 looks well...

    Need 3 new tyres..
    Head gasket to be done (costing me £70) - overheats and smells lovely after 5000rpm
    Cambelt to be done
    Overfuels cos of powerboost valve
    Knocking from tight shock
    Bottom left ball joint
    Exhaust blowing from downpipe (crack at sensor)- not sure how much for this

    Typical saxos...

    But always cheap!

    New beam is needed as pins are starting to wear.
    Cam belt kit is sitting in garage being alot of use
    Theres a squeak coming from under the gear stick area which i think is a knackered eninge mount
    Droplink bush has popped out
    Hub nuts on both sides
    Ideally i need a new idle valve from a scrappy
    Then i need to get the tracking done.

    Take away the squeak one. just fixed it! wasnt the mount but it was the 2 bolts that conect to the wishbone in the floorpan. one bolt was a bit loose. tightened up and its all gravy. Enigne mounts have been moved to the mod's list rather than the to fix list

    clutch is crap
    sometimes i set off and the engine die's
    i think the drivers side rear damper is fooked

    Something wrong with my passenger side wheel. It squeaks REAL bad. Also I had a warped disc about 3 weeks ago so I changed all pads and discs on front axle and it's warped AGAIN >.>

    It kills ARB droplinks every 6 month or so
    Airbag light is constantly on

    hole next to jacking point that needs welding up (area with 3 grommets)
    creaks over speedbumps
    think one of the driveshafts needs removing and putting back in as when i go up my drive (its a hill) and roll back down after stopping theres some rubbing noise :s
    rear drums need changing
    nearside outer brake pad wears 20 times quicker than the rest
    sunroof leaks when it wants to, not all the time
    idles iffy sometimes
    need new alternator bracket as it loses the bolts in 2 days!
    and one of the oil galleys has gone or the rocker gasket needs changing as the engines a tad oily on the outside but everythings fine!
    and the fan doesn't work, think the relays burnt out!

    then some gits put a dent in the drivers wing when i was on holiday, the grille doesnt sit flush as one headlights not OEM and theres stone chips here and there. and whoever fitted the fogs made a mess, so i've got to sort that when i next get the bumper off

    haha saxo are french so problems are common no saxo has no problems haha!!

    Exhaust blowing
    door dosent fit right (has dropped for sum reason)
    couple of scratches
    clutch release bearing knackered (annoying when clutch is in!)
    annoyin squeak when accelerater is lifted at low speeds!!
    need new cambelt soon.......

    but other than that its not too bad

    cv joint - fixed
    lamber sensors-replaced
    engine management light - still on!!

    my Old saxo had - prob with exhaust, front seats wobbly, sun roof leak, ower steering went - aparenlt something do with ignition. head gasket went!

    mine's 100bhp, thats my problem >.<

    I've noticed alot of people are overfueling because of 'power boost valves' WHY fit them then, if they clearly do nothing but make your car slower!

    whats wrong with my saxo...all of the above. lol

    No its not really that bad. I have the squeek when cold i thinki thats the power steering pump. Its a whirring noise which goes after 10 or so mins.

    Needs cambelt change really. Just reachedd 73k and dont knwo if its been done yet.

    Needs gear linkages to be replaced as theres a fair amount of play in the stick

    Exhaust fire gasket needs to be replaced again...3rd one in 18months...They start creeking when engine is under load - any ideas on that one?

    1 more tyre to replace so theres a matching set all round.

    Other than that, exterior is pretty good could probably benefit from bonnet respray but its not urgent...

    Mine does this squeek when you pull away from cold. Anyone know what it is? I reckon it's either an engine mounting (anyone know if these can squeek?) or the flexible exhaust joint just before the cat. Does this sound reasonable?

    Feck! Dunno if I'm just lucky but on my 'w' VTR only thing needs is new rear discs as badly pitted and rear pads. Just replaced the cat and rear section at £193. Could probably do with new shocks as well cos think they're originals but all in the 'fulness of time'.

    Never seen so many faults as above listed! - mines a P reg, one of the oldest saxos and the only thing wrong with it is that the clutch clonks when changing gear and the interior light doesnt come on when the drivers door is opened. (Oh and the bit of rust thats in the boot walls and round the engine bay which I waxoyled and undersealed).
    Its really not a bad motor for coming on 13 years old!

    headgasket on mine thats sorted ... the only thing at the moment wich is a persistent is the sunroof drains just cant unblock n/s one. Was ok 2 week ago dont know whats got down there but it aint comin out had airlines down it and allsorts. But overall its done ok. I wonder if our friends across the channel have the same reoccuring problems as we all do. Or have a different set of problems !

    just got a mk2 vtr 02 plate off a young lad and i think he's de-cat it with a mk1 downpipe and them silly 140 clocks which light up blue..
    1..engine manager lights on dont know if its the sencers on downpipe or manifold/which colour plug is the one for the manin and downpipe
    2..with them silly 140 clocks the petrol light is always on i can go and put £10 of petrol in get back in car and it will move just over the light and go's out but when i stop and start up again it gos back to light on so i dont know if it is the needle sticking or the pump or sencer in tank.. so just having a bid on ebay for some mk2 clocks to try and rule out the needle if its not that it must be the pump/sender
    or and they are 2 big round black things under back seat which 1 is it for pump for me to take out and replaced if its that

    i tend to have knocks from my driveshafts.. possibly need replacing.. erm what else ?... oh and i had to replace the break pedal switch cause my break lighs wouldnt work .. ball joints went... centre part of my exhaust needed replaceing... all is pretty good now apart from the odd knock on the corners ..

    Silly trim on the door is coming loose
    Interior lights leak
    gearbox is about to go bang (got another though)
    Airbag light is constantly on - just a wire under the drivers seat
    Doors dont stay open on their own..

    on my 02 vts all clock lights are constantly on eg. abs, euc etc. ( i have change the clocks not sure how to fix this pm me if you know how!)

    got a creeky noise on full left lock

    drivers side ball joint knocks when turning right on a bumpy roundabout

    needs new clips on some of the arches.

    Veeeeery slow gearbox oil leak (litterally just enough to keep the casing a bit damp)

    Other than that it's actually fine right now!

    Mm there's quite a few niggles but nothing major. Lets see:

    Engine leaking oil, dripping whilst going along.
    Broken rocker cover gasket (could explain the leaking oil, hoping it does)
    Whistling at 1250 and 1750 revs, read it could be down to the broken gasket though
    Water leaking through the remote sensor (or where there should be one)
    No remote sensor, or remote for that matter
    Knackered audio adapter (some twat cannot connect a stereo)
    Engine managment light comes on when it want's to.
    Door cards are coming loose, and most pins are missing from the car i.e. heater fin pins, doorcard pins, doorhandle pins.


    Fixed alot of problem or about to soon hopefully.

    Lights only light up about 15ft of road ahead

    Bonnet closes when it wants to

    Have to put the key in & out repeatedly for about 5 minutes before the immobiliser will sort its life out

    Exhaust makes a weird rattling/'blowing' sound occasionally

    ECU light on (pre-cat lambda sensor me tinx)
    uneven idle (same again or ICV clean/replace?)
    driver seat creaks alot (too many pies perhaps....)
    loads of play in gear stick (some sort of pin apparently - i think linkages)
    creak at full left stearing lock (dont know)
    sometimes revs come back down very slowly (again, not sure)
    bite is uber high, like at the end of the clutch pedal travel (clutch buggered?)
    when its cold, it jolts when clutch is released (same again)
    excessive play in rear right ball joint thingy
    just recently its making weird rubbing noise (breaks sticking maybe?)
    when still and clutch is in, i get a high pitched loose rotary noise (god knows?!?)
    had cam/alternator belt done recently, since then sometimes i get a strange knocking
    finally centre console bulb doesnt work

    still love it to bits tho!

    My gearbox has got a hole in the bell housing = new gearbox lol, so I have just bought that, but my engine is a bit tappety. So will sort that out. How much does that cost?

    mine is an ex show car so had loads of mods done to it which didnt turn out so well for me whilst putting the inside back to stock, needs:
    new boot lining from boot to front seats as there is fibre glass resin everywhere and i have buckets with harnesses fitted so rear seat out the question.
    Pas pump
    brackets making for front bumper as bungies are doing the job from the inside at the moment
    rear number plate light fitted
    kit fixing on properly
    annoying speedo problem, when i bought it the speedo worked but not the rev counter, so when i changed the dash i put a vtr dash loom in and vtr clocks and now i get revs but no speedo.
    Creaking drivers door
    loose gearstick
    selector shot so it grinds in the odd numbered gears but i have a replacement box complete with clutch and a lightweight and balanced flywheel all waiting to be fitted
    17's rub a smidge on full lock
    needs custom air filter pipe making as no airbox

    so glad i have my 1.2 16v punto to fall back on whilst my vts is hibernating in the garage, i'm waiting on my first credit card with a 5k limit and when it arrives all this shall be gone lol

    the usual problems ive read about really...

    leaky sunroof-fixed.
    knocking from steering-fixed
    knocking from suspension-fixed
    Rust hole floor o/s and n/s at jacking points-fixed.
    Rust holes in n/s/r inner wheel arch and seatbelt area-fixed
    Rust in both front wheel arches by ecu/fusebox-fixed
    Steering wheel badly off centre-fixed
    Engine management light on-possibly fixed..
    wheels need balancing-to do but am not payin 15 quid per wheel.
    stone chip in screen-not mot failure.

    just waiting for my pas pump to naff up, my axle to go bye bye and my heater to stop working and im pretty much through the list..

    i have a saxo vtr 2000 silver and the gear linkage is broken and i put a hole in the side of the gearbox.... i crashed it so i got odd colured pannels that dont line up lol.... then i crashed in the snow coz i was having a little fun hahah and the bumper fell off so sorta put it back on properly thank god for cable ties lol

    Few things wrong with my car

    need a new boot put on after little accident smashed the windscreen and dented the boot
    power steering packed in (new one ready)
    p/s wheel arch needs fitting on properly
    need a new cat + exhaust
    rocker seal leaking oil
    did have a leaking sunroof but thats fixed
    few nasty scratches on back bumper but thats not important atm

    me dash is lit up like blackpool, abs and ecu, petrol light to!! drive at night and u get another 2 handbake and main beam light, strut bearings are clunking like f*ck, needs oil plugs and filters and a snapped the wires on the underbody lambda snsor in the snow/ice, but its just the fench scene

    the problems ive /had with my saxo
    -new radiator
    -new thermostat
    -new water pump / had the calbelts and aux belt changed while doing water pump
    -new coil pack
    -new alternator
    -new lower wishbone (passenger side...ball joint snapped)
    -new alternator
    -new crankshaft pulley
    -new lambda sensor x2 the 1st one is on its way out
    -new clutch (valeo) started having trouble after 9k sooo
    -new techni clutch well reccommend
    -re-con gearbox


    work needing to be done
    -leaking sunroof
    -heater matrix
    -lambda sensor
    -exhaust blow
    -rocker gasket leaking

    maybe more but cant remember .....
    apart from all that ive had no troubles with my saxo lol

    Knocking when going round corners (Kwik-Fit was supposed to fix this for its MOT but its still there, so ill be paying them a visit!)

    Rear wiper washer doesnt work

    Speedo keeps packing up, gearbox sensor maybe?

    Cooling fan not working

    Water leak from thermostat housing (Easy Fix)

    Horn sometimes stops working and have to keep mashing the button untill it decides to work again

    Window wipers need to be 'unstuck' every now and again

    Kwik-Fit hadnt fitted a wheel trim back on properley and that flew off on somewhere on the M50

    Side indicators keep falling off

    ...

    Just spent £440 on new rear brakes and cylinders, welding, driveshaft, bushes and small stuff like headlight allignment

    My Saxo Fortes engine keeps whistling when i get to about 45MPH and gets more high pitched after about 60MPH. Also the engine cuts out sometimes when slowing down at a junction or roundabout. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas on why these problems might be happening?. Cheers for any help

    must be a common thing with saxos. my vtr isnt exactly a joy to get in reverse or 1st, the other gears are ok though.
