#2only if the noise is excessive
-
#4it is illegal if its too noisey which it probably will be if you have no backbox. nothing serious though, the police will just give you an order telling you to replace it which youre going to do anyway.
just dip the clutch when you see police and should be fine -
#5Police tend not to do anything.. Unless your driving like an idiot... Just explain the situation to them... and they should be fine. that's what I did.. Mine fell off the first night I ever drove it..
-
#6will probably be too loud and im sure theres a mot reg that says exhaust gasses must exit from the back/side rather than underneath
-
#7Technically it's illegal to drive any car without the same number of silencers that it left the factory with, so yes it is illegal.
-
#8So what if your car originally had a mid silencer on the centre pipe but changed it for a straight through(assuming its got a cat in manifold and declared on insurance), is that illegal?
-
#9Cheers guys, yeh its pretty loud it was this 1 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Saxo-Sportex-E...lenotsupported i thought it was a crappy unbranded back box but turns out it was 100 quid lol
. However it was very drowning. Do you think if i buy a standard silencer and fit a decat pipe it, it would be very loud or nice tone with the silencer on? Thanks

#10Sure is! It's up to the MOTtester (or local policeman) to know that there should be a silencer there, but tbh it's fairly obvious where they should be. It is one of the rules that has become lax over the last few yearsQuote:So what if your car originally had a mid silencer on the centre pipe but changed it for a straight through(assuming its got a cat in manifold and declared on insurance), is that illegal?

#12where have you go that one from?Quote:Technically it's illegal to drive any car without the same number of silencers that it left the factory with, so yes it is illegal.
we were told by a traffic officer that the only regulations are the MOT ones regarding emissions then the gases must not exit the system before the end and meet noise regulations. so you could run one box in the center and no rear box but aslong as its meets noise levels it is legal -
#13Admitedly I'm a few years out of date, but that's how it was when I was doing MOT tests.
Personally I'd never fail a car for having a straight through but always would for a missing back box.
I'll see if I can find my old copy of the testers handbook and scan some usefull stuff. -
#15My punto's exhaust rusted and fell off.
infront of a pub of rowdy drunk chavs mind
