decat mk2 cheapest and best options?

   Hi all,
   I want to decat my mk2 2003 vtr but looking at the prices am scared off by the £200+.. is there a cheaper option i.e. mk1 mani and oil filter??
   
   Also whats the best option for mot time?? I heard its not a great job to change the manifold??

   if your cat is in the manifold, which im presuming it is, then purchasing a mk1 downpipe will decat it instead having to buy a new mani

   however the oil filter is in the way so you have to swap that round

   okay so whats a good price to pay for one and the filter and will i get any gains or will it not compare to an expensive one..?

   no real gain in it tbh maybe 1bhp
   a proper mani will only see 2 or 3 tbh
   
   its just noise and response really

   okay thanks, im looking to sort out my breathing mods so with this, a nice exhaust - new induction kit and filter would it be worth doing??

   i've got a mk1 4-1 mani on my mk2 vtr and it decats it aswell, goes alot better, i wud recommend it, i picked mine up for 90 pounds.

   did you get the manifold with 2 lambda sensors and the 1 where you dont have 2 move the oil filter??

   what make is it and where did you get it from?? what do you do come mot time??

    when it comes to mot how hard is it to put the cat mani back on??

    easier to get a mk1 cat and centre pipe and put it underneath

    think its a piper, got it from my mate vtr_wilson who bought it from ebay, haven't got round to mot time just yet, but he says at his mates garage if u just take the cat with you without fitting it they will pass it off, i'm gonna try that in august for my mot

    too answer your question about the MOT, removing a cat of a car that was made after 1992 is illegal and will fail mot only way to pass mot would be to put original cat back on which means swapping oil filter around i think.
    
    and besides there is no power gains, just makes car really loud which tricks you into thinking its faster. oh and if the police catch you without a cat or any illegal modifications they can impound your car! i know coz it happened to a mate of mines corsa

    well im wanting to do all this so when winter comes i can get working on a turbo conversion so the breathing mods are very important..
