i went and got some paint made up from my paint code. i have put it on with grey primer as the base, then paint then laquer and it doesnt really look that good.
its came out as a real dark black and is not real shiney at all.
anyone know why this has gone like this, and am i doing anything wrong?

Get some pictures up of it, maybe a macro shot of it then we can figure something out

But you have to remember its new paint, the older paint on car will be slightly oxidised, it could benefit from a machine polish

the grill may need wetsanding down then machined

You need to put more lacquer on - I had the same problem yesterday. I was putting lacquer on my blue bumper and it was really odd looking and made it look patchy - what i was raging about - i got a bit pissed off and went a lil over board with the lacquer so the bumper looked like it had a really wet layer where id sprayed it - it dried lyk this and looks great!

ok cheers mate. i have started again as it looked rippled and didnt look smooth. waiting for primer to dry over nite now.
  15. #15
if you did not leave enough time between coats its gone flat because it needs to flash off between coats ,

    Orange peel ftw.

You need to do some sanding with something like a 1500/2000 grit between each stage to flatten out the paint. That way you'll get a nice smooth finish instead of them ripples.

Then it'll be nice and smooth, mirror flat and you'll get some nice shiny reflections!

I personally wouldnt worry about that. But if it bothers you then it will always bother you so your doing the right thing

well i have started again. i will sand between coats and see how it goes. im also leaving plenty of time between coats. thanks for the help

    did you add lacquer???
  20. #20
yh i added 3 coats of each, im doing it all again and take alot of time with it, im waiting for the weather to clear up as i have no where to do it.

is it reccomended to add more coats of laquer??

its flat because its out of a spray can, you wont get a gun finish from it... the orange peel will be possible to fix if you sanded it down and polished it..

    whats orange peel?
  23. #23
Look at the skin of an orange and you will see what orange peel looks like.
Your never going to get it to look much better than it does right now unless you get it done with decent paint and a gun. Only thing you can do is get some 2000 rub it up then compound it up with some g3 and itll look better.

    ok thanks mate

I would paint it for you mate but it will cost £30 for the paint alone, then you got postage and that so its not going to really pay.. drop into your local bodyshop and see if they can do you a favour at a nice price??

no no no no no! hold it right there

get some 1800 grade wet and dry sand paper. sand it down lightly, till it looks veryvery dull!, then use a cutting compound like t-cut to bring the shine back up, at first you will think you have ruined it until you use t-cut, then using polish, do 3x layers of polish and it should like as good as new!

If all fails mate, post it to me in a painted state and ill put it in the booth at work with another job and put some laquer on it for you aslong as you pay postage both ways.

ok ill give thins ago. do you sand the paint lights before laquer then do all the polishing or do you do it after laquer?
  29. #29
I wouldnt know the exact colour of your car, you send me it in a painted state, ill nib it off and scotch it then laquer it. I wont be putting any colour on so its up to you to have used the right colour.
