im a little confused, i had a look in the FAQ

but i have just bought an X reg saxo VTR but it DEFFO has the 98 BHP engine
but reading the forum they was only used from 2001?

    anybody shed some light?

how do you know it is defiently the 98bhp engine?
  3. #3
    3 plus ECU
    compared pistures from here..

same air intake as the 98HP model
  4. #4
has someone else fitted it? have you checked date of your vehicle reg on v5?
  5. #5
yep no engines been changed.. its had one owner who was a oldish lady

where is the dipstick? is it in the middle of the manifold or to the right? i have a t plate vtr with a silvertop but is still mk1 engine. airbox is also different. there are 3 types of engine.

    mk1 blacktop 90hp, single plug ecu, 97-99
    mk1silvertop 90hp, single plug ecu, 99-2000
    mk2 silvertop 98hp. 3 plug ecu, 2000-2003

i believe your engine is mk1 silvertop . i may be wrong about the above dates though.

i will get one later on today..

reason: i was on the understanding the 98 engine were from 2001 only.

yer i thought this aswell, however i have a friend who has a furio on here that is an x reg but also has a 3 plug ECU system in it when it should have a single plug, it also has the cat converter in the manifold.....

where is the cat on your car, this may shed some light on the situation

Must have been one of the first ones fitted with the 98 bhp engine, you get some X's with the 98bhper and I've seen some Y's with the 90bhp engine (cars which were registered late)

However you pay the full whack for tax, (March 2001 goes by co2 so a lower banding)

shud be picking it up anytime not just waiting for the phone call

as said above, it could well be a later x' one of the first with ther 98HP

My mate in college got an X-reg VTR brand new (crikey, suprised I can remember that far back!) and that was a 98bhp engine. I can remember arguing with him how it wasnt but then he showed me the 3 plug ECU.

Sticky needs updating with a disclaimer I think
