Does anybody here know anything about converting an ax 1.1i into a vtr powered monster?... ive bought an engine but have no inlet manifold as yet.. i was thinking maybe i could get it running with the 1.1i head and ecu? would it work?

#2Ratty is your man, ran an ax vts turbo for a good while. funny feeling he will answer your q's and point you to www.axownersclub.com to
-
#3you have to be a member to get any advice off them lot on axownersclub.
yes you could get it working with the 1.1 ecu and head but isnt your 1.1 single point injection? if so then there is no way it will supply enough fuel to make it work, there is no easy way to do this on an ax as the multiplug loom changes size from ax-saxo where the ECU Engine and Car loom join.
you really need a VTR unlocked ECU and loom to match that ecu. That way all you need to match is a few guages and some ign lives and earths.
is your ax post 91? if not you will need a later model or saxo gearbox as it wont cope with the power. -
#4not sure if this will work

This is prior to my latest stuff and on the AX, now all in the saxo. -
#5You going to post some pics of your saxo ratty?
-
#6eventually, took some pics of the engine whilst i was rebuilding it yesterday (c2 engine) to show the differences to the inlet and stuff, but cant find my lead for the camera
-
#7a likely excuseQuote:Originally Posted by Rattyeventually, took some pics of the engine whilst i was rebuilding it yesterday (c2 engine) to show the differences to the inlet and stuff, but cant find my lead for the camera

what sort of power are you hoping to be running in the saxo? and are you definitely going 6-speed 'box?
-
#8nope ditched the 6 speed as got a brand new 206 gti 180 box with diff (who needs 6 gears its for show offs
)
-
#9power im aiming for 250 or over atw

take it it'll be a track/strip toy then? can i ask why the 180 box, is it the ultimate for the 'charged saxos then? is that with the pugsport bellhousing as with the gti-6 box and which driveshafts are used? are you going steel crank and rods or it that too top secret
(sorry for all the q's but i'm dying to find out here)
-
#11im not gonna rev past 7.5k so dont need steel rods yet, have to investigate the stress on them at some point once its all sorted. Gti 180 box has a long first gear then is inbetween vts and vtr ratios throughout the rest of the gears, so perfect for launches (when adding a diff) then once moving we all know the score.
Plus its BE3 so can handle the power, and yes with pugsport bellhousing etc.
Ill give you a hint, steel rods is the only thing i dont have, and i mean that
-
#12you're a dirty jammy cheating lucky bastardQuote:Originally Posted by RattyIll give you a hint, steel rods is the only thing i dont have, and i mean that

are you planning on overboring the c2 block any? i know with the vts block it was too thin but could you take the c2 block out to say 1700? did i hear somewhere that a rover crank could be modded to fit a vts lump, taking it to 1800? -
#13you can get a fardon engineering crank and rods and pistons pusing it to 1860cc, mines overbored slighly but nothing major. probs just over 1600cc.
Best thing about the C2 is the inlet and exhauts valves, if my measureing was correct they are about 4mm bigger on inlet and 2mm bigger on exhaust. -
#14thanks for the advise lads. im sure i`ll work it out somehow
-
#15yep, but crank on it's own is over a grand. fuck that. good luck with the sax then mate, i'm very much looking forward to seeing it finished (and the dyno graphsQuote:Originally Posted by Rattyyou can get a fardon engineering crank and rods and pistons pusing it to 1860cc

-
#16hey ratty. when you say guages what do you mean?
-
#17just waiting for the diff

guages as in speedo, rev counter if it has one, water temp etc -
#18wow your ax must have been flaming rapid i bet it was faster then ya saxo now
-
#19nope, his saxo will be fasterQuote:Originally Posted by Dino209wow your ax must have been flaming rapid i bet it was faster then ya saxo now

so fast in fact i said it twice
-
#21i will be putting either ax mk2 gt clocks or vtr ones!
-
#22if you put vtr clocks in you will need to change the dash wiring also, might have to on the ax gt mk2 ones as well if it doesnt have the rev counter, need to make sure you speedo pickup is analogue and not digital like the saxo else it wont work. (gearbox)
-
#23i put gt ones in before in a mk1 i put the whole dash in which was not worth th bother as i didnt do it right and the windscreen kept cracking...
