Engine trouble...

   The other day i was driving engoying the poke of my VTS when somthing went wrong, after accelerating hard through first, as i let off to change to second I heard a nasty crunching noise as though id missed a gear, i knew i hadn't because i hadnt tried selecting 2nd. After this noise my engine cut out and it hasn't been able to start since! I tried replacing the spark plugs but when i turned the egnition, there was several loud pops and smoke came from the air filter...
   Do any of you have any ideas what the problem could be?
   Any feedback is much appreciated...

   not sure mate but it sound crazy to me and expensive...

   it cant be anything to do with gearbox, if u didnt select 2nd gear so guessing it could be something wrong with bottom/top end dnt quote me on that though

   timing belt has snapped???

   i'd say a broken timing belt is likely....bent valves probably too. Sorry to be a bearer of bad news. Get a mechanic to check it out.

   ^^agree, take the cam cover off (black plastic left hand side) and see what the crack is
