VTS running + hot

  1. #1
    Hi all,

A few days ago my vts rised the water temp a bit, i´ve stopped and checked for failures, and found that the radiator cap was not well tight.

So i refiled the sistem, bleed it and it run fine until home, but the temperature has settled a little upper than normal.

Then i changed the water to proper colling liquid, bleed the circuit and run a test...

The fan comes on in the write time (a bit below 3/4) but, while running, the neddle stays in the middle line, and if i stop, 2/3 minutes after the fan goes on.

Thats not normal to me, before this issue (radiator cap) the neddle used to be below the middle line about 2mm, and stay there, even if a stop, just rising if hi got stopped a lot of time.

So, i changed the thermostat, give to the system a good clean up, and changed the headgasket to new one, thinner (C2 VTS).

Again refilled the system, bleed it right (radiator, head and side of intake header) but, the same thing happen...

The needle just stay at middle, in normal driving, and rises after a quick stop.

    Any ideias ?

    Running out of pacience.... :s

    Thanks

Sounds like you need new temperture sendor.........

is the temp sensor in the side of head by any chance

    Updates...

Changed the radiator, the old one was a bit rusty, the temperature now stays before half mark a little more time, but, the problem is there...

After the fan start to work... she never stop again, because the system doesnt cool down, just stay about 3/4 and i can get it to cool down.

And this is in good conditions, with low ambient temperature, at night.

In normal conditions the fans should stop and the needle should drop to about middle, starting again to warm up and do the same.

The engine head was tested, it has no leaks and has been rectified, the water pump changed....

Can get it like it used to be...before the "cap" issue...

    Help..pls.....

Did you really change the headgasket for this? Not sure it's a good idea to install a headgasket designed for a different car either. If it's thinner, as you say, you will raise the compression and risk pre-ignition which in itself will make it run hotter as well as damage the engine.

As for the change in temperature, as long as the fan isn't constantly cutting in during normal driving (i.e. not stationary or slow traffic) I'd say you have nothing to worry about. Anyway, you have change so many things now that it is bound to run at a different temperature.

Yes, the headgasket is thinner, 1 mm less, but its a common change (at least in Portugal) use the c2 vts headgasket.

It raises a bit the compression, but not enought to make any changes to the normal temperature of the engine.

Its just a "update", like raising a bit the fuel pressure, or working the TB.

In normal driving the temperature its fine, nothing to worry about, BUT, it gets warmer a lot fast when stationary, and, when the fan goes on, it can not cool down the engine, just keeps it in the 3/4 zone.

The only way to cool down, and make the fan goes off, is to turn the heater on at full speed.

Thats not normal, and belive me, it was not like this, before the "cap" issue.

i´ve read an old topic with this issue (http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho....php?p=3449567) but can get reach a solution....

No one has/have a heating problem ?.... getting bored of this car... :s

    Thanks in advance
