grpN vs B8

    what are the advantages

considering i may be buying some B8 front and rears for £230ish
  2. #2
people say the group n's are a bit harsh for everyday road use, i want them though lol

Id say a good set up is group n fronts and b8 rears with some 170lb faulkner springs.

one of the biggest advantages is the thicker shaft and piston. Holds more oil so cope better with heat and don't flex under load

    thankyou much

but for £230ish, B8's are good? or should i save and get grpN's

car will be used as a daily, untill i go to uni then it'll be in the garage, and used when back / few track days

i have the group ns front and rear with 175lb springs and they are absolutly awsome

and i use them everyday, they are a little harsh here and there, but you get used to it, plus it really isnt that bad tbh

it is a great set up if you ask me, probs the limits for using everyday if you get me

    cheers, nice info

my main concern is if i can get the b8s that cheap, is it worth spending the extra on grpN's

it'll be used for track, but not as an all out track car, a daily with the ability to stand its ground on the track occasionally

yer erm tbh the b8s are a great set up

erm from what rushy has said, cause he has the 155lb with b8s and they are a good set up

erm, i only went for the group ns cause i managed to get things cheaper lol

but it is a really good set up, and if you can put up with the bumps and shity roads with hard suspension then you will be fine

sometimes it makes me laugh though cause im weeving around trying to dodge the huge potholes or drains that are 3 inches down lol and i wonder what the person behind must be thinking... is he pissed?.... wtf is he on?... lol must be funny

but if you can afford the group ns and you are going to eventually use it as pure track toy and on road occasionally get the group ns, i got them for the same reason, i plan to use my car as a track toy and on the road now and again, but couldnt resist getting them now as they were so accessable for me at the time and cheap

again thanks, id rather have the grpNs, just depends if i can find a set cheap enough

yer thats the only downside the price, for the same price you could get a 2nd hand set of rear group ns and custom coily set up on the front, it would cost about 300-400 to do the coilys depending on where you get things from and how much you pay and whether its new or 2nd hand etc then rears go for about 150 2nd hand for a good set

I'd only go Grp N if I was gonna uprate the front springs and rear torsion bars, the damping rate is a little high for the standard springs/torsion bars. With overdamping you end up with a lot less grip on bumpy roads the car feels all floaty probably due to the wheels not rebounding fast enough to regain their grip/tyre contact.

    springs will be uprated

i guess a lot further down the line the torsion bars too

im thinking seeing as its not a hardcore track slut for now, i get b8's cheap, then if i get more into track, get grpN's can sell the b8's on again

you cant fit astandard springs anyway with group ns they are farrrr to short, plus it depends on what spring rate you go for as to whether you need bigger bars on the rear

i have the 175lb springs, and if you work it out i should really have 20mm torsion bars on the rear i think it is, but as of yet it has been fine for me

and the 155lb ones which most people go for are fine on standard torsion bars

cars been lowerd by previous owner, unsure of what springs, looks like spax, ill be upgrading to faulkners at somepoint
