a mates got a new civic, the 1.8vtec and is looking to get a bit more power from it. anyone know anything that can be done to free up a bit of power? it seems quite underpowered compared to the type r only having 130-140bhp compared to the type-r's 200ish?

What I do know is that a HRV 1.8 bottom end with a EK4 1.6 head and manifolds is a superb engine. Good power to weight ratio.

Plenty of people putting 2.0 K20 engines into civics, but these really need to be taken out to 2.4 to get the right amount of power out of this big lump.

Should have said that the EK4 head is off a V-tec or SiR

without knowing what engine hard to say.

Guessing its a half vtec due to being only 130-140hp. Thats why its down vs the type r with its dohc.

Basicully hell only have vtec on the inlet not the exhaust like type r's

I wouldnt bother with more than a exhaust and inclosed induction kit (possably a filter) becuase itll never get up to the power of a type r or even be "nippy" none full vtecs are to put it bluntly slow..

Is'nt turbo'ing a popular upgrade for civic's? maybe its the none vtec versions... there relatively cheap from the USA also...

first thing i told him was to turbo it, dont think he wants to spend quite that much! its quite quick actually, quicker than a vtr.
i dont know the first thing about honda's and i know most on here wont, the only reason i ask is because i cant be arsed registering on a honda forum when its not even my car lol!

Do you know the engine code.

The 1.8 vtec engine from the DC2's is very highly tuned from the factory and is very hard to get more out of unless switching to forced induction. As honda have already ported and polished everything to death by hand before it left the factory

As for the lesser units im not sure. Could swap bits from the type r unit but then you might as well put the whole thing in.
