Cloinky steering

    Lads,

Right everytime I turn past a certain point I get a very satisfying 'DOING' from the suspension.

It happens when i turn approximately 1 and a half turns to the left, and if you turn all the way to full lock it will DOING on the way out, then DOING again as you turn back in, at the same point.

Any ideas? Strut top mount bearing?

Recently the entire struts were replaced, lowering springs fitted and the old dampers were replaced with stiffer ones, but I did use my old spring cups & top bearings, which were fine beforehand.

Could it be the damper collar? Although it seems VERY specific as it only happens at one point of the steering travel...

    Any anecdotes / knowledge appreciated

Track rod ends were replaced today and I havn't heard it since ... yet. But only because my wheel bearings and driveshafts are fucked awaiting replacement aswell

    Cheers

When i took my struts to peices i also greased the rims of the plates that slide against eachother while steering, this seemed to sort the problem out for me.

    Top bearing then?

May just order some new ones, theyre not TOO expensive.

Shit the bed though, 2 top bearings, 2 wheel bearings and 2 driveshafts is gonna please my bank manager

Probs shafts dude. Check for leaks at the gaiters or your CV joint may just be worn and needs replacing. I.e. new shaft

more than likely it will be the lower balljoint, easiest way to fix it is to buy a wishbone arm...ebay are usually gd, should cost about £30-40 for one.

I replaced my springs and dampers and suffered with this, for me tightening up the collar that holds the damper in place sorted it out. Did you do the work yourself? if not take back to the garage and ask them to tighten it up a bit more

Take it back to the garage?

    Pfft! Home fix ftw!!

Nah the problem was solved by replacing pretty much everything. Track rod ends, hub bearings, driveshafts, top mount bearings. So somewhere in there it fixed itself. (Hub bearings & shafts were knackered anyway)

Also, when i took the strut out i noticed i could twist the top mount and the damper would twist with it, up until a point whereafter the damper would stay still, which was probably what caused the very specific 'shift' causing the noise

WD40 on that and the damper stayed still no matter where i twisted the top mount.

    Job done.
