Cams Newman Ph1

    what sort of increase am i looking at adding these cams?

    also what else would i need to buy aswell as these?

    *Cam - there's only one in the 8V engine.

    Not heard of many people fitting the PH1 to be honest, it's almost too mild to warrant pulling the head off the engine. Go for a Kent Cam PT40 instead - will see you into the region of 118 - 119bhp (unmapped) with breathing mods.

    dont do ph1s pal, u'll barely notice the increase... in theory you wouldnt need to change anything but a remap for them would see your best power increase.. it is said remap is not neccessary for these ones... i've been looking into it, go bigger and better with the remap and u'll be pushing past vts's mate....

    right... never cammed an engine before

    only ever replaced standard,

    ill take a look at the PT40

    ...the ones i want... but cost just as much (once remapped) as dropping a vts lump in virtually!! hehe

    has anybody got a link to a PT40 cam?

    It's not the cheapest option, but maybe works out cheaper in the long run than insuring a car with an engine conversion? Suppose it depends on how long you're keeping the car.

    Kent PT40 (brand new blank) - £200
    New head gasket, head bolts, cambelt kit - £80ish
    Adjustable cam pulley - £90ish
    Having the cam timing adjusted on the rollers - £100ish

    Then you have labour charges and your breathing mods (to make the most of the cam) on top of that. They do drive very well once the timing is where it needs to be, much better than a VTS on fuel too.

    PT40 on eBay. Larkspeed also sell them (ignore the PT3040K bit, the cam you get is the PT40).

    You could also go for a Newman PH3 which you can grab from Kam Racing - 'tis slightly cheaper to buy and gives similar/ better results than the PT40. I recommended the PT40 as I had good results with it fitted to mine.

    yeah exactly im planning on keeping the car a long time,

    i dont want to be buying a VTS for insurance purpouses

    and i font want to be like everybody else and drop a VTS engine in

    labours chaeges aint really a problem

    pfft alright for some... haha, my charges used to be free, and my mate at pug lost his job- doesnt have all the tools to do it at home for me now but he can still do ma head gasket for.... free chuffed...

    Ah right. You will get good results with either the PT40 or PH3 unmapped, providing you fit an adjustable pulley and have it set up properly on the rolling road. Breathing mods are a must too!

    im a college student doing a national in vehicle technology

    so i get to use all colleges facilities for free outside off hours, and if i need help the tutors will step in,

    we also have a roling road and facilities to remap most cars

    Panel filter should be ample, but you definitely want an aftermarket manifold and exhaust. A Piper 4-1 manifold is where I'd spend my money.

    As for the oil cooler, might want to have a read of this.

    i couldny buy a new mani tho could i with my car being in there?

    De-cat = mot fail

    urmm ..

    scrap the cooler idea..

    Get a MK1 VTR CAT to go under the car. Or buy something like the Janspeed manifold with incorporated sports CAT.

    iv always had vts's n now ive got a vtr, how much are these and what are the best ones for the mk1 cos my downpipe is craked anyway and the manifold is like all of 3 inches big! ha...

    MK1 has the CAT under the car, so something like a Raceland 4-2-1 will be a direct fit.

    the link in the post above is the manifold, if oyu have a mk1 u need a cantrepipe with the cat rather than the cat in the mani

    so where will the lambda sensor go then?... ive currently got the manifold in one piece, then straight away a downpipe is seperatly attached on with a lamda sensor on it... this attaches jus below in line with main engine block at the front...then i assume the cat gos onto this and off to the back....

    i think the sensor should go at the bottom of the mani possibly..

    im not to sure of the mk1 set up TBH but i know the cat is under the car

    keep the cat when i replacing it with a decat and take that to the mot centre with you show them and they may let it through, thats what i have always done mate.

    just be a little chosey about where you send it for mot though mate
