   i have found a brand new silver top vtr engine for £750 is this a good price and is there any special attention i would need to give it?

   Pood price for a brand new engine yeah. Whether its worth it over a second hand one for your needs is another question mate. Second hand ones in good condition go for 100-150. Headgasket and a cambelt and your sorted for the length of you interest in the car
