looking for cams

Ok, i've got all the breather mods(full exaust sytem, induction kit and vtr TB) on my 1.4 saxo. My headgasket is gone and needs to be replaced. So i think it's time for an aftermarket camshaft. I've looked arround on the forum for information on wich cam i want to buy but i'm not getting any wiser I'm looking for a cam that would not need a remap, pulley or uprated valve springs. Might get a remap in the future. Wich would be the best? Newman PH1 or PH3 or Kentcam pt40 or pt41?

Just whack a vtr engine and ecu in with a vts box. No one will be able to tell the difference, then play with that. Get 80-90bhp from a slightly tuned 1.4, for that price you could easily get a 1.6 lump and service it, 90bhp base then.

i know but i make a lot of miles a week so i dont want an big increase on fuel consumption. my 1.4 is doing 45ish mpg with the mods and a standard vtr would do 34ish mpg...

Camming your 1.4 engine will use more petrol than a 1.6lump with your current breathing mods

With your current mods your mpg aint gunner be that good never mind if you put a cam in her an map it...

    Tom is speaking common sense.

For the price of cam by it self or sorting out the gasket you can get a decent VTR lump.

I used a PT40 in my vtr and it made 119.5bhp unmapped from a 98bhp engine with the usual breathing mods. I dont know how they perform in a 1.4 but ive found it a good cam in my vtr.

It doesnt need uprated valve springs unless you raise the rev limit but a vernier pulley would be a good thing to have. I will run on a standard one though.

ok thanks mate, so the pt40 wont need any other modifications. what about pt41's? and is there anyone with a 1.4 with an uprated cam?

PT41 is quite wild, may even need pocketed pistons IIRC? PT40 would be a good addition, I saw on 106 owners that it will make better power with a VTR inlet manifold fitted.

Breathing mods will definitely help too!

ok thanks mate, think i'm going to look for the pt40. Allready got all the breathing mods and when i've solved this http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=244618 i know wich sensor to buy and i can fit the vtr tb & inlet mani

thats not always true i have a vtr thats fully breathered, stripped and it has a 1.4xsi gearbox fitted and i actually get 45mpg as you can see under my progress link

and i travel alot of miles too, i travel 26miles to work then the same back, so you will be getting the same, where as if you cam your 1.4 you will do less mpg so you may be better putting a vtr lump in, unless oyu really want to keep the 1.4 engine then just use a mild cam as people have already said
