Damper Issue + Question

  1. #1
I recently (Well a few weeks back) bought some VTR suspension legs with Lowering Springs (Lowering springs is all i wanted) but i ended up paying £22 for the 2 legs, dampers, springs and vented disks (There lipped, so not going for sale) Bargin i think!

My plan was to lower 40mm on standard 1.1 dampers, as these were VT Struts i thought it was a bonous as it would be a bit more firmer (Please can someone confirm this is true, or are they all the same?)

Anyway, took the springs off to find they are 2 completly different dampers.
One is bage, with Monroe stamped on it (Which i assume is standard) and the other is jet black with nothing stamped on it.

I squashed them side by side and they are the same length, i also extended them and they are the same size. They even feel they have the same presure inside.

I noticed that where the top mount sits on the part the noves up and down. One damper has a tapered head for the mount to sit on and the other has a square head. When the top mounts are on, and the dampers are extended the top monuts are the same level.

So can someone tell me if i have a duff shock?, is this standard or if its a damper from like eBay and its been replaced, and while he was at it, he replaced the springs? (This is what i'm assuming)

I was going to lower the car on Sunday, but i'm a bit confised now.

I can get some pictures if it helps.

    Thanks
