stick with Standard VTS or go VTR Turbo?

I've been offered a pretty decent price for my mildly modified VTS (which has the usual breathing mods, exhaust system, 4-2-1 manifold, lowered etc) which has come at a time when I need the money (just been made redundant). I've also got the option of replacing the VTS with a VTR turbo and making a few hundred quid in the process which will tide me over for money whilst I look for another job.

I'm interested to hear from those on here who have had experience of both cars and how they compare in terms of performance? Will the turbo VTR out perform the VTS bottom end and top end?

Before everyone jumps at me - yes I did use the search function but couldn't find any threads that specifically answer my questions.

    TIA

Mainly dependant on the spec of the VTR and what condition its in.

If the turbo and all the related parts has been upgraded and well maintained then it should beat the VTS, but if it was a cheap bodge job on the turbo and its been ragged then the engine is probably knackered and not worht the hassle and expense of keeping it going.

OK thanks for the reply. I understand the The turbo conversion was done by a reputable company and has been looked after however it does need a little TLC here and there.

The turbo will cost more than the VTS in the long run, tyres, fuel, parts, servicing. So may be better off keeping the S you know is working ok so you dont have to fork out if its fucked.

mmmm it is a tuff 1
but i think i would be better of with a VTR Turbo
turbos are quick n u can also get tht Dump valvue noise and u know u will leave any other vtr or vts standing + a turbo VTR would be a head turner

so you reckon that a turbo'd VTR would outperform a VTS? What sort of breakhorse would a turbo VTR be putting out running low boost?

i think most people that have there vtr's on low boost get about 130-150 iirc

You can use Low comp pistons and you don't NEED the rods as the R is tough enough. Cool the boost properly and youll go over 170.

Running low boost then would be equivalent to a standard VTS and thus not much of a noticeable difference in power...

there would be a noticeable diff because the way a turbo lays down the power.

if you have a VTS and a turb'd VTR both running say 130 bhp the VTR would beat the S just because the way a turbo introduces power

Think the word everyone is looking for is torque of which you get more of with a turbo
  12. #12
take the vtr turbo if you decide to make it faster you have the turbo base.

I'd have a vtr turbo over a vts, as long as it's been built properly though.

Stage 3 turbo kit would eat a VTS and many more cars out there

What youve got to think is, why does this person want your vts instead of their vtr turbo?

Personally id stick with what you have.

Well what it is the person who wants it is a good mate of mine and has offered to give me exactly what I paid for my VTS over one year ago! He knows I've looked after the car and modified sensibly and isn't bothered by the fact I've put over 20,000 miles on the clock since I bought it.

Also for financial reasons a VTR would work out much cheaper on insurance for me (even with all mods declared), which is a real bonus as I can save a few hundred to help me out whilst I'm unemployed.

Thanks for all the replies so far I didn't think this thread would generate much interest? My current VTS has just been on a rolling road and is putting out 135bhp, so (if anyone can help) this is the power I want to compare a VTR Turbo with.

Unless you can give us the spec of this vtr we cannot even start to guess the power of it. Theres so many variables to consider.
