Possible solution to air bag light with gti interior...?

  1. #1
I fitted my gti interior yesterday and the airbag lights flashing, i noticed that the plug on the new seats was different to the one fitted to the car but i got thinking last night and what if i was to cut the plug off the old seats and fit them t the wire underneath the gti seats.? surely by doing that it would create a full circuit as the plugs could slide together again like the originals...?

    Or is that wrong.? lol

    comments please

thought the plugs were the same, the ones i fitted with raz plugged straight in...

really, the plugs i got are different

i swear the plugs under the seats on saxos are for the pre tensioners not the airbag? or is it linked?

Yea they are but for some reason there all in the same electrical circuit so when you unplug them the air bag light comes on.? gets so anoin at night to see the light flashin lol

yeahh fair play. thats so wierd cos apart from vts's where there aer airbags in teh seat, the pre-tensioners surely ahve nothing to do with the airbags....some people take the dials apart and cover the bulb with some tape

in an accident though your gonna need both the seatbelt pretensioners and the airbags to work at the same time otherwise bye-bye face

then again, if you dont hit anything solid then the airbags wont go off anyway - neither of mine did when i flipped my vts

Yeah pre-tensioners under the seats cause the airbag warning light to come on, classic pug 206/306 problem

Could you not snip the connector off your old seat, cut the wires off the gti seats and run them into the old connector so it's the same fit if you get me..

earlier seats have different plugs to the later style seats

if you have mk1 take the dials out and take the bulb out, if you have mk2 take the dials apart and put some electrical tape over the led as said above. but cant you just use bullet connectors or something?

yeah, bullet it mate, cos at the end of the day you want your seatbelts to tense when you crash otherwise you'll be screwed....so need it connected not only to stop the airbag light coming on but to stop you dying....i think anyway

also sorry to sound dumb but whats a bullet conecter and how would i go about connecting them.?

if you remove the bulb or cover the light it wont really solve the problem, would just hide it. the seatbelt pretensioner wires are involved with the airbag system.

i had this problem with my gti passenger seat which had different block connectors. you can either cut the connector off your old seat and either solder or crimp it to replace your new gti connector (as you said basically just swap it). if this doesnt work, you could just use totally new connectors all together. ive used bullet connectors, however, weeks later my light always comes on, doesnt bother me u get used to it

yeh my gti seats came with the plug cut off, so i just left them like that, and i don't have an airbag anyway because of my steering wheel, so i just put some black tap over the light lol

your seatbelt will still hold stiff if yol dont have them, they just wont restrain you into the seat pre-airbag blowing time.

the airbag is unlikely to ever go off anyway, from all the crash stories ive heard they barley go. the pretensioner is a spring which retracts the seat belt buckle in a last resort to holding you in the seat ready for the airbag
