98hp 8v which -manifold- w/o relocating oil filter?

  1. #1
nearly as long as i've had my car (mk2 vtr 98hp x reg '01) i've had problems with my exaust system. back box blows, on my 3rd cat under the warrenty from the garage. all of it is in good condition surprisingly except the manifold that is blowing and orange from the rust...

so i want to get a new manifold..

but from reading on here with some you have to relocate the oil filter.

i'm wondering is there any sports manifold either 4-1 or 4-2-1 that you can fit without having to relocate the oil filter? just i can't be bothered with going through the hassle of having to do this...

supersprint with 2 gaskets just clears it i think

cheers lee just had a look on kam-racing on the 4-2-1 supersprint http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufactu...106-8v-14.html and it says here that:

    Quote:
Made from premium quality stainless steel its a flawless fit and gives a sporty but none offensive exhaust note along with a reduction in back pressure and legendary durability.

NB: This manifold will fit the mk1 and mk2 versions of the VTR. There are no clearance issues with the later model cat and oil filter.
shame that it is nearly twice as much as a raceland...

    Piper 4-1.

It cleared the Oil filter and my VTR made 111hp with it on the dyno.

    GMC SS jobbie ftw imo.

mk1 or mk2? do you get this problem on the mk1 too? sorry if im butting in... but looking into replacing my vtr exhaust....
  7. #7
Do you know that will de-cat your car btw?

Makes MOT time fun even though a Mk1 VTR exhaust will work.

supersprint will always fit, the raceland are the ones that wont fit proper and need oilfilter relocation. The diiferents between a 421 and 41 is that 41 has more gain at the top end and the gain of a 421 is even spread across the revs. remeber if your oem mani has a cat in it a aftermarket mani will decat the system and it wont pass mot.

but the janspeed manifold comes with a sports cat so it will still pass the mot? http://www.kamracing.co.uk/manufactu...o-vtr-998.html but it doesn't say on there it will clear the oil filter? does anyone know if the janspeed will clear the oil filter? else it would be perfect as it has a sports cat?
  11. #11
absolutely no point paying out that much money to still have a cat, you just wont benefit from it!
supersprint is twice as much as the raceland yeah thats your option, pay the extra or spend 20 minutes moving the oil filter

Aftermarket manifold on the later VTRs (with CAT in mani) makes a very healthy difference.

Supersprint just clears the later style oil filter with multiple manifold to head gaskets fitted.
Piper/ GMC 4-1 is a very good fit - definitely worth the extra money.

although i do have a brand new cat i would much rather have a manifold that comes with a sports cat so its mot legal as the mot is in november plus the janspeed seems a lot cheaper was well which is more tempting. i appreciate though that it won't have near as much power as a decat but if it's cheaper and road legal....

i know it was mentioned that the raceland was the one that you have to relocate the oil filter and the rest are ok but is there any confirmation on the janspeed 4-2-1 with the sports cat model is it a good fit and you don't have to relocate the oil filter?

    cheers for help so far

the janspeed with the sports cat is designed specifically for the mk2.

    no clearance issues at all

there's a raceland for the mk2 ones now, although only ever seen them on ebay from tuning leader.

Anyone ever heard any reviews of them?

    Although it's a 4-1 rather than a 4-2-1

I have a janspeed mani on my mk2. I could def tell the difference. Getting it RR'd as soon as I get my nitrous fitted. Ill let you know the power

pic of my piper witch misses the oil filter and its for sale http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=225510
  21. #21
so which mani gives the best performance for a mk2? in your opinions
  22. #22
Mate at the end of the day it is for a 100bhp car and the differences between them will be negligible.

I am happy with my GMC but wouldn't recommend the hassle of changing.
  23. #23
got the janspeed 4-2-1 with sports cat in the end as didn't want the hassle of changing over for mot definately gave a lot more torque and did feel quicker as my old one used to blow but whether it gave it little if any horses if another matter got it as it was cheaper than going to citroen.

do not buy the cheap cats off ebay. i had one for my old saxo and had nothing but trouble with it. they look a different colour inside aswell.

i made the smae mistake on my corsa aswell and that failed its mot and then passed after borring a mates cat. so they are a waste of money and will put ur engine light on as the mk2 have a sensor before and after the cat.
