Michelin tyres useless

When my car was in for MOT it had an advisory that one of the rear tyres was cracking on the sidewall. I thought fine, it has some crap tyres fitted. But no...they were on the front, it was a michelin.

Now I have found that another of my michelins is cracking in such a way that the tread (6mm left ) is about to all fall off

I would never buy another Michelin tyre, thats 2 with almost full tread I have had to bin

u buy these tyres brand new? or taken off a set of vtr rims? as they use michelin tyres from new. So maybe that tyre is 6-10 yrs old?

I've not had any bad experiences with michelins in the past, wore better than most tires to be honest mate on cars and the motorbikes

They were on the car when I got it, but doubt they would still have that much tread left after all that time.

As I recall there is a year code on tyres too, will try to find out how old the one I am binning today is

Although I personally wouldn't buy michelins due to the price I can happly say you must have bought from a bad batch! I used to have a mk2 clio which had the original tyres on the rear (michelins) and had gone so hard because they'd taken so long to wear they've almost stopped wearing completly. They sat on 2.5mm for the 15,000 miles I covered when I had the car! Not a single crack on either of them and they're 11 years old! lol.

    Found this info
Any tyre over 6 years old should not be used

Still havent checked mine as its chucking it down now (at least I can skive off from cutting the grass)

maybe a old set of vtr alloys someone replaced, Stored outside for 4 years.. thread not going to wear down then. just the side walls

Mine are the same, tyre walls cracking, but have loads of thread on them.

Yeah, the standard Pilots that come with the car are pretty good imo. Just when they get to around 5/6 years old they seem to develop cracked sidewalls.

Looks like mine is 4 years old

Not 100% sure though, couldnt find an obvious 3 or 4 letter code, then seen one that was 1305 or something, meaning it was made in 2005 (if it was the right code I looked at)

Strange, I have never had a problem with any Michelin be it road or race, car or bike. There what I have got on my road car as we speak.

the rubber compound in a tyre will start to perish around about 4 years, depending on how they have been treated and weather conditions...

i used to go through rubber on my R6 like there was no tomorrow beacuse id go out, warm the engine up, jump on and go, forgetting about the tyres needed warming, then they would break!
    then bought a tyre warmer

dont use a tyre after 6 years, because even if there is tread on them, the side walls will be shagged... didnt look at your link but i suppose it says similar.

a new michi should last a while, and not have a problem with cracking / perishing... you cant really get much better for a road tyre.
